If the fan isn't working could it prevent it from booting up. The power seems to be there and I've tried a different charger without success. TIA
As Marc says it will overheat very quickly. Check it is clean and also check it is connected, they can work lose.
had similar problem some time ago - overheating. Got a can of air with a powerful spray from a Plumbers Merchant -- gave the fan a good blast and things returned to normal.
Leave it completely powered off (maybe even remove the battery) overnight so that it thoroughly cools down and see if it boots. If that is the problem, it might run for a couple of minutes before shutting down again. If it won't boot at all then it could be something else.
Google "cleaning the fan on whatever laptop" and you generally find some instructions. Better still YouTube are good for instructional videos. Assuming you have another computer.
There is a site you can go on called Money saving expert,join this and you ca n ask em questions about anything under the sun it is divided into different sections,find the one relevant toi computers and ask on there,very good when you are having trouble with anything
To add to that. The processor is under the greatest load at Startup as it has to start the OS, load all the services etc. The hard drive also gets hammered if the RAM is maxed out as the swapfiles cause loads of read writes (HDD space used as virtual memory) Be careful as you could 'fry' your processor with a non-functioning fan.
Thank you all for the replica/advice? Had a little mess around.. And thought better of it. Too hamfisted. Spoke to the guy in the indoor market he's gonna check it out for free. He said it sounded like the fan and that it may be something so simple as giving it a clean. Thanks again.
Re: Thank you all for the replica/advice? Had a little mess around.. Do you get anything on the screen at all? If it's a laptop CPU then it should still run without a fan (at least for a while), if it isn't booting up at all then I would suspect a motherboard issue.
or a hard drive issue I had a Toshiba laptop ages ago... some of the boot up stuff got corrupted so would not have it... ended up having a new hard drive put in and problem was solved... cost me £140..... that was the new HD and they even saved the stuff on the old HD and put it back ... I was amazed as the people who did this was PC world.... I was expecting to have to have sold my first born into white slavery from them
Update, FYI Got it sorted. Apparently the GPU graphics chip failed. Cost £30 to have it repaired by the guy in the semi-open market. Once again thank you all for your replies. TT

Re: Update, FYI That would be dishonest and only serve to increase my premium (and everyone else's for that matter) Don't have Cola in the house anyway, although I'm told it's good for cleaning floors and coins. Can't believe people drink the stuff.
