Just so you aren't confused as i'm the one who mentioned Hignett. I'm not saying Conor Houriane is anywhere near as good as Higgy was. I was just saying he's the best i've seen since Hignett.

I think Houriane has started better for us at League One level than Howard did. Drinkwater wasn't our player and wasn't around very long. Houriane at this rate will be gone in January for a couple of million.

Not sure if you are old enough to remember the side Hunter got promoted in the early 80's pretty well all of them made the step up - not for one minute saying all these can ( though I recon D Cole might be OK ) but considering how little game time they have had so far they are doing OK - I think Hourahane for sure after another season may well be good enough to step up but we will see

No my first game was in 85/86 season, I agree that we look good and some of these players are really good but to be talking them up like some are is a bit too soon for me to be honest

Am on holiday but had to reply and agree with Nightmare. Some folk are getting ahead of themselves. Best since Hignett? Best passer for years? Based on a months football in L1.

Be happy with our start, enjoy the performances but comparing Hourihane with Higgy and Redders already? Wow.

Anyways, as you were. Off to beach.

I'm now going to ruin your holiday by asking you who you think is the best we've had since Hignett in the Houriane position :)

As things stand Hourihane's behind Howard, Anderson & Butterfield & that's without giving it much thought

What's tha mean based on a months football? I've read many posts that have written players off before they even kicked a ball. Even remember fans booing the team off in a league cup second game of season. A months a long time at Barnsley.

No, based on one match. I said, and I quote, "Haven't seen anyone at Oakwell pass the ball like he did in the Crewe home game for a long, long time. I don't just mean a Barnsley player, anyone. It was a master class."

This thread has got ridiculous. I mean, FFS! Folk accusing people of claiming the current squad are as good as Redfearn and Hignett when they haven't said anything of the sort. All we're saying is we're impressed with what we've seen so far. We're also saying they look to be a lot better than we've seen play in the recent past. All I said specifically was that one performance by Bailey was as good a passing game as I've seen for years by any player at Oakwell. It was, what do you want me to do, lie about that? I haven't said he's the best player we've had or anything close to that, just that he could really pass the ball in that game. Time will tell if he can keep that up, if he can keep the same level of performance, but even if he can't, he's a **** of a lot better at passing the ball than the likes of Dawson, Perkins, Etuhu, Frimpong and the like. Last time I saw anyone spraying the ball about like Bailey was Buttefield but even he didn't do it as well. However, Butterfield had plenty of other attributes in his locker, we'll have to wait and see if Bailey has them too or if he's predominantly a passer.

Even Dreamboy didn't say the current lot were as good as the legends, just better than what we've had since, which, to be fair, hasn't been a great deal. Maybe he overlooked a couple of players, but so what? What's wrong with building up the players we've got?

If you're going to criticise us at least stick to what we actually wrote.

Nobody has come close to Higgy. As for Conor, he plays a different position. More of a Redfearn or Howard role from what I've seen, but I'll leave others to make unnecessarily early comparisons. I'm just glad Conor and others are getting good reviews.

    Passionate riposte that, Jay.

But I have little to respond with other than reiterating my point that folk are going overboard far too early in my opinion. But that is all it is, an opinion. As is yours. After two defeats we had similar OTT reactions but of a negative flavour. Each to their own. From the little I have seen I too am impressed, but not surprised. We've a lot of players now who I feel are playing a level below their ability. They ought to shine against the likes of Gillingham. Pleases me they are doing. But I personally haven't seen any displays to compare with club greats. We are a month in, and Ssturday was the first quality performance. First of many, I think most of us expected a bedding in period.

If you believe Bailey's passing display against Crewe was the best in years then great. I said after Crawley his range was impressive, I just know I have seen better at Oakwell in the last few years. As for Dreamy, he clearly suggested Hourihane was the best since Higgy. That I disagree with for lots of reasons. But everyone is entitled to their opinion and I am expecting nothing of you or anyone. Post what you want, I don't want you to lie pal.

Off to a castle now. Have good days, people.

    You Reds

We lose a couple it's sack the manager and the team is *****. We win a couple and suddenly we are comparable with the Dutch total football team. Sigh...such is modern football.
