You want to try looking back through posts about Dawson. Superlative-tastic. It was like the world had ended when he got injured.
I used to get hammered for saying that Mellis wasn't that good. Can only recall him having a handful of good games.
As I recall he was leading an unofficial player of the season vote up until his injury. I still rated him a hell of a lot more than Mellis.
I could post links to all kinds of threads showing none of us know **** all, Andy. Just been going through a thread where I suggested McNulty was better than Shackell.
Thing is I'm not sure that it shows we know nowt. It just reflects what was the view at the time which was probably very true. Then when things go wrong and we turn on someone we become slightly blind as to what went before. Take the Vaz Te example, he was ***** up to and including Portsmouth. Saying so at the time doesn't make you wrong given what followed. Similarly, having said at the time that Dawson was quality for us in 2012/13, or Wiseman and Etuhu to the end of that season, or Perkins in 2011/12 doesn't make those people wrong. Prime example, people who thought Hill was great up to 2 months before he was sacked now claim he was our worst ever manager.
Abso-flipping-lutely! And sometimes people proper deserve it, especially writing people off after one game. Let's say you turn out to be right in the long run, it doesn't mean you were right at that moment in time!
Genuinely hadn't spotted you'd created it. I was doing it more for Marc's benefit. The wally.
The difference in feeling for Keith Hill from November 2011, compared to November 2012 is great to read. By then, only me, thee, Dyson and a couple of others were still clinging to the belief he knew what he was doing. Great days.
Dunno, there were plenty still happy after Birmingham away and when Blackburn were interested in October 2012. Although we were ploughing a lone furrow by December
I've bumped three threads. In a general manner. One to take the piss out of Marc, one taking the piss out of myself, and the other was highlighting how quick folk form opinions. Genuinely didn't see you'd created it. My apologies if it's offended or upset you.
Like I say, by November mate we were thin on the ground. By December, I admitted he had to go. I have never felt as gutted after a managerial departure, including Danny's in 98. A part of me died that night.
I was referring to King Keith's departure. I wasn't arsed when Danny left I was only 16 and assumed we'd still walk the division.
