Why hasn't Sam Winnall been watching his team while injured?

Don't think he says much wrong. Typical footballer interview. He's hardly going to say "Aye, we're *****."

Does no-one proof read anymore? This bit is awful...

"*but they are also only seven points adrift of sixth place and what, so far, has proved to be that elusive sixth place."

Typical footballer interview is we're taking it one game at a time, it's MKDONS up next and that's what we're concentrating on, we're going into every game wanting the 3 points, and we'll see what's happened at the end of the season.

Our players come out with ****** like this all the time

Something similar to what you've just quoted, and not that he thinks we can get in top six when we've been watching what we have, he's taking the fecking piss .

The league table shows we still can make the top 6 though regardless of how crap we've been recently. Just needs a run of good results. That's why they are saying it, they'll always try and be positive.

It's an old cliche but every single manager quotes it and that's "We're taking one game at a time and concentrating on the next game", which if you think about it is exactly what you should do. If they get ahead of themselves and start thinking about a derby match, a cup match, play-offs, relegation battles then they'll come unstuck. All you can do in football is have a game plan for the up and coming match. Wilson maybe thought that a point at Donny (Don't forget they are up near the top) would be a good point and lets be reight, but for a foul on Holgate and a wonder strike out of context with the game, that game plan would have worked. He'll probably do the same at MK DOns so I wouldn't bother going if you're expecting us to go all out to win. They always used to say, win your home matches and get a point away and you'll not be far off the top. It's not working but we haven't had a settled side all season so its difficult. Winnall has played a part in most of our good performances this season and we're missing him so cut him a bit of slack mate.

He says “We know it’s going to be tough, but we’re quietly confident we can get into the play-offs if we perform."

That's indubitably true. Whether you or I think we're going to "perform" is a different matter entirely, and one he doesn't touch on. Would you perhaps like to quote the part where Sam himself (rather than the journalist) indicates that he thinks we can get in the top six regardless of what we've been watching so far?

So they've got to be positive in interviews, but not when it counts on the pitch, sounds like they've get it arse backwards to me.

As everyone above says - whats your problem.

“Some of our performances have been frustrating, there’s no hiding from that,” admitted Winnall.

“But some of our performances have been very good this season and we know what we’re capable of."

Thats how I see the first half of the season - interestingly a lot of the frustrating ones have been since he was injured

“We know it’s going to be tough, but we’re quietly confident we can get into the play-offs if we perform.

“If we can have a good run of results in February and March, when there’s a lot of games, then we feel as though we could be in a good position to get into that top six.”

He is right - if we go on a run we can get into the top 6 -- I dont think we will but I would be a bit annoyed with a player who came out and said we were poor and will struggle to avoid the bottom 4 at the moment.

It's not Sunday League football mate where you just turn up and try to beat the opposition.
There's a game plan for every game and the game plan for Donny was to frustrate them by defending deep and get a point. Maybe nick all three with a bit of luck. That's basically what we did at Brammall Lane and we won.
Game plans don't always work out as proven last week but if you're expecting us to play gung ho away from home against teams in the top 8 then you'll be disappointed more often than not.

Would you rather him say I think we will be relegated
