My question would be why Berry rather than Scowen? Why buy a defensive midfielder, put him on the bench, then bring him on with 20 minutes left when we're 2-0 down? Baffling. Fwiw, I admire Berry's workrate but I haven't seen enough in 20 odd games to make me think he's going to make it with us at this level. Was very poor today.
He told Danny on Friday that he'd got a knock on his foot.... His days are numbered I feel. Pisses away chance after chance that lad. Overpaid, overrated and overweight. Shame, because there's a really talented footballer in there.
We have got what we deserve as fans, we have driven out players, pushed them to where they couldn't care less any more with vile abuse, negativity, inconsistent support. What right have we got to think we should be challenging higher up the table. Players like McCourt ,o Grady, Dawson should still be here but why would they want to be. Who cares if McCourt didn't tackle back with the skill and excitement he could give, what would be better than Dawson's fight and effort now. O Grady should have been treated with the same respect as hignet or Ashley ward and maybe he would have stayed. Jennings has the talent to be fantastic but what he has put up with from the fans I would not blame him either for not bothering and I bet the young lad are **** scared to make a mistake for the fear of abuse. I've witnessed it for years and hated having to sit on the stands listening to constant abuse unfairly aimed at certain players and this has had a knock on affect to the other players on the team. We have now to be patient and support our team/town or we could end up in obscurity. Sorry for the rant but I feel better now.
Well i certainly blame Jennings for not trying. He is a pro footballer and i contribute to his salary so i expect him to try and i don't care whether he is happy with some shouty stuff from the stands, he should still try. So do you reckon its worse at Oakwell than at any other ground with any other set of fans? Are we particularly nasty b*stards in Barnsley? Or could it be that when a professional footballer with obvious talent who should thrive in this league comes back in August looking like he has spent the summer eating pies, he should expect a bit of stick when he is blowing out of his arse after 15 minutes. And if he doesnt want that, either dont eat so many pies or find another profession.
In the 30 years I've been watching Barnsley I've witnessed season after season players selected for abuse and î find it uncomfortable having to listen to yes so what does it achieve when the team hears it. Nobody no matter what they do should suffer abuse and no one has a right to give it out. I've said my not now. The football is terrible and has been a while but there are better ways to support our team
In principle i agree with you and I never personally dish it out, its just not me. i also agree that is doesn't help the team whe things aren't going right. i dont agree with players being given abuse because they they are percieved to be crap - its not their fault that the manager signed them and keeps playing them. but if a player is deserving of critisism because of a lack of effort them then i fully understand when it happens. And for me, Jennings falls in that category. So i don't accept that it is understandable that he appears to be not bothering. It is that which has brought the flack about in the first place.
I'm not daft I know there is a lot more wrong at oakwell than a minority of fans but it does happen and doesn't help and we have all heard it too often. I'm just making a point.
Talent but no work ethic or commitment; we seem to get more than our fair share of this kind of player.
When we had a decent run earlier in the season, we finally had a settled team (and admittedly Winnall was in the team too). Since then, Danny has done nothing but chop and change. Digby would be a good example of this. He plays a couple of matches, then vanishes without trace. Whatever you think about Hemmings, how many chances did he get up front? What's the issue with giving our own guys (not loans) a fair run in the team?
Berry is a good player, he was one of our top performers when we were doing well. However I think we have overplayed him, after all he is only a kid. I think he needs a few games rest but I haven't seen anything from Digby that he can put a same shift in game in game out for 5-15 games. We have seen him give the ball up and cost us goals in games he has played but having said that he did ok in his last outing. I think with the large midfield squad there is room for rotation and that will allow the young kids to develop and rest. Individual players aren't our issue right now though.
