Five live games on TV & Bradford v Fulham or Sunderland isn't one of them. Instead we've got West Brom v West Ham and Villa v Leicester to endure amongst the other usual suspects - Man Utd again, Arsenal again and Liverpool (if they get through). No magic there for me and Bradford missing the £250k TV revenue on offer. Let's keep shoving money in the bank for the Premiership teams. Well done to the BBC and BT Sports #pathetic
I can't argue with Man United probably being shown against Sheff United or Preston but I was bemused of why West Brom - West Ham was being shown. BT have the fascination with West Ham. They showed both their games against Everton in the third round when there were better games to show. Villa - Leicester won't be a bad game to be fair and the channels will be struggling what games to choose because of both Chelsea and Man City both going out BUT Bradford surely had to be on tele as well as deserving it after their fantastic showing against Chelsea, especially if they were to face Sunderland.
Yep, looks like they are determined to follow Arsenal every step of the way as well as this will be all 3 rounds so far that they've been on
Thing is bradford will fancy their chances against either team... more chance of a 'shock'. The only games ive watched in the cup tis season excluding our replay have been the Warrington v exeter and the Cambridge last week. Dont think ive seen more than highlights and tit bits of the rest. West ham v west brom villa lesta? Id rather go to work...
The Bradford chairman was on Calendar yesterday saying the same thing. The choice of games has been a joke since round 3.
Absolutely and it happens every year. As soon as the premier league join the competition the 'grass roots' interest disappears. It's like TV executives are brainwashed into thinking all fans crave premier league football and the world will end for them if they don't provide the 'fix'.
Not only does this confirm everything that is wrong with football, but you can only assume that the choices are made based on viewing figures. I would love to see them as I find it really hard to believe more people would tune in to watch Villa v Leicester (would prob be last on MOTD if it was a prem game) than the Bradford game. BBC, BT & Sky are killing off whats left of the FA Cup.
If you look at how FA Cup reciepts are shared (45% to each club 10% to the FA) Bradford will make less money than on an ordinary league game.
So basically they are being punished for producing arguably the greatest FA cup result of all time by having to play an extra game and making no money. Brilliant - the Boro result looks a good one now.
Unless they win, in which case they'll make an extra £180k. But it is shocking that they're showing those two all Premiership games. There's absolutely no way I'd tune into those, whereas I may have watched Bradford v Sunderland, which has the added attraction of hoping Poyet's team gets stuffed.
Alot of folks have been complaining about the quality of ties in the next round. They want underdogs to win and then when they do they moan about the ties looking ****. Can't have it both ways. Shocking to see Bradford overlooked when it should have been second pick behind the Man United tie. You can see why they feel hard done by. If a league one side home to possibly a premiership team for a place in the last eight isn't what the FA Cup is about, the competition is messed up.
I think if Bradford were definitely playing Sunderland than they'd have been on tele but them beating a championship team in Fulham wouldn't be a massive upset or a massive draw viewer wise & the TV companies have played it safe by going with the guaranteed ties. I don't personally have a problem with the West Ham game been on TV as they're playing good football this season, have some exciting players & judging by the team they picked at Bristol they're taking the competition very seriously. Not bothered one bit about watching Villa though. They've been the worst team to watch in the premiership for at least 2 seasons & their goals scored / against columns back that up. No idea why anyone would choose to put them on TV
I get this point but you can watch West Ham every week on MOTD so the TV companies should stop this premier league domination if only for the sake of the magic of the FA cup.
