Had my first 'iffy' moment with a muslim today..

One of the lads at work. He's from Pakistan, been here a few years, I've worked in the same department with him for over a year now. I have a few lads who are muslim that I'd call friends, or, work friends. He's not one of them, but I've never had an issue with him or owt. His english is awful and so I don't conversate with him much.

Anyway, I was talking with a Polish lad about summat, and he mentioned he was attending a pals funeral back in Warsaw next week, hence his week off work. Muslim lad in question was hovering around, and asked us (in broken english) what 'white' people do with dead people. I eventually worked out that he meant 'how do we lay them to rest'. After a bit of chat he then asked me if I knew that when I died, I'd be going to hell to suffer for "all times". Because I wasn't a muslim, apparently. Folk who know me will have expected my reaction - I started giggling, wide eyed. Funny as ****.

    Bless him.

I don't think giggling was the best option available...........in fact it was probably the worst

Someone laughing at your religion is not going to create that much harmony

Also if someone is telling you that you are going to hell then he isn't appreciative of other religions........which in this current climate is dangerous

A better approach would be to accept his views and also insist that because you accept his views on religion then he must accept yours

I've thought long and hard about religion - I love talking to people wrapped up in certain religions - my conclusions are this: other than Hindus (who I greatly admire) all the other major religions pray to ONE GOD.........if they all pray to ONE GOD then surely that God is the same God..........so you can say to your Muslim cousin - you may reach your God through a different prophet but you and me are acknowledging the same God

Mate, the conversation didn't end with my giggling. I told him that we all believe in our own ideas, faiths, whatever, and that we should be accepting of others not forceful of our own. But that didn't need adding to the original post I didn't feel.

I wasn't laughing at his religion though. I was laughing at the idea that someone could tell me what would happen to me because I didn't follow words in the book he reads. Laughing at the sadness of it. It gave me an insight into why some folk are daft.

    Night night.

    you reds

I support one football club and one alone. My mate supports one football club too. Therefore Barnsley won the premier league last season. Get in!

    Whack him with a bat.

    Hth.

In all seriousness it's worrying how much Muslims are wrapped up in their warped view of Islam, I've met very few Muslims who are accepting towards other religions. I know a bloke from rotherham called Mr. Kaleed and his view of Islam is borderline dangerous, when I used to work as a delivery driver he used to speak about helping fight against assad in Syria, he never went like but still...

I can honestly say that of the muslim lads I've spoken to I have not once felt uncomfortable or wondered if they're evil etc. But some are ******* well narrow minded and try to push their religion, like they feel everyone has to know it's so good or summat. but then, I've met english folk of different faiths like that n all.

I just found today's little episode amusing. And considering I always defend Islam on here etc, thought it was worth sharing.

Can I just say none of this would have happened if we hadn't bombed the **** out of Mulsim Countries in quest for Oil and Corperate power.

In thi scase the end justifies the means.

I don't agree with religious fanatisism, but to blindly think our Governments arent equally at fault, I feel anyway, is even more of a crime.

There I said it. Russell Brand without the comedy.

First time I've ever replied to my own post.

But 20 wrongs don't make 20 rights, or one right. Understanding does.

    Peace.

Could have said..An astronomically overwhelming majority of the people who could have been born never will be. You are one of the tiny minority whos number came up. Be thankful you have a life, and forsake your vain and presumptuous desire for a second one.
