    yes they are worth summat

they are like old days wi pop bottles... there is a deposit on them. B7Q and other diy stores sell gas bottles for BBQ's. portable gas fires etc ... ask them .. also any caravan center will advize you... you may need proof of ownership though.

You will need proof of ownership to get a refund. Better off taking them to a Council recycling place.

not sure if you can actually get anything back on them as such, I think its just cheaper to get a new one when you take one back

With Calor Gas the way that it works is you pay a deposit for the initial purchase of a full bottle and you keep the receipt as it's proof you rented a bottle. If you want to exchange the bottle then you simply pay for the gas in the new bottle and they take the old one off you. If you simply want to return a bottle and not exchange it then that's where you'll need the proof that you rented a bottle in the first place. No proof of initial rental then no refund. That said for some bottles they don't ask for an initial deposit. It tends to be the size of bottle that caravanners use as they are the most popular sizes so that would be 6kg Propane (Red bottle) and 7kg Butane (Blue Bottle). Other than these two and I'm not sure they ask for a deposit.

The recycling place at Worsbrough Bridge takes unwanted bottles so I suspect other recycling places in Barnsley will do the same.

If you want a refill try Fuelmaster at Barugh Green. These are the cheapest I've found, I get the 13kg bottles to use a gas ring for making my homebrew.

Given that the Gypsy/Travelling community tend to leave them behind when they move on, I wouldn't have thought that there'd be any return value. This is not an anti Gypsy/Traveller post, just an observation.

I'm a Calor Gas stockist, and they (Calor) run a very tight ship. You have to pay a deposit for every new cylinder you buy (without an exchange). Plus, they will only accept Calor Gas cylinders in exchange, not for example Flow Gas or BP.

They even send me a print out of what size cylinders I have returned, along with the sizes I've bought, so they keep a running total of every size cylinder.
