Looking at the lad, it seems to me he just doesn't play as well on heavier winter pitches. A smooth summer or spring surface allows him to take a few strides with the ball without it bobbling before one of his trademark strikes. On the muddier pitches he seems unable to get around the field as well, and doesn't seem to have the same number of efforts on goal. He has always looked more of a creative attacking midfielder rather than a combative defensive one, and he doesn't seem to judge how the ball will run when he is considering challenges. As circumstantial evidence of this, just look how much time he spends at present picking the mud out of his studs. It's a bit like a horse that doesn't act on soft ground.

Of course in training, Conor will continue to look good on the smooth astroturf surface. Hopefully his form will return when we get towards warmer weather and drier pitches.

He's got munk on because he's scored 11 goals attacking through the middle, playing high up the pitch, but now we've decided we need to be solid in front of the centre backs, he couldn't do that job so now he's out wide, another position he doesn't look happy with. With his technical ability, hight, movement, vision, and eye for a goal if he adopts the right attitude he could be the best thing we've had at BFC since Vaz Te in that same ish sort of role. He needs to knuckle down embrace any role he's asked to play and he will return to the game winning sort of form he was in at the start of the season.

Didn't he score goals and play well out wide?

When he was playing well and scoring he was great, but now he just can't be arsed. Haha you couldn't make it up.

He was never playing well. He was scoring goals and that excellent part of his game masked (quite rightly) the lazy aspect of his game.

Don't see a lazy player at all. Spent last night harrying and attempting to tackle (badly) rather than being creative. Compare his efforts to Jennings unwillingness to track back. People just criticise for the sake of it. Pearson last night played well but went through whole sections of the game without being able to pass to one of our team. Milan doesn't have the fitness to play more than 55 minutes effectively and often chooses the wrong option. With his final ball All our players have weaknesses it's why they play for us not somebody good

Agree here. Hourihane is obviously badly lacking confidence as well, cant wait to get shut of the ball when he gets it, afraid of making a mistake. He would have buried that chance late on a few weeks ago. We need to get behind him but his current contributions are not great. We've all on playing with 11 men without carrying anyone

He's not become a poor player over night i just think he needs a rest

Like many have said he was the weakest link in Midfield last night

he does seem to have lost the cutting edge but playing every game this season wouldnt have helped that

Give him a rest on Saturday

A minority of two, at least. I've still not seen him have a good 90 minutes.

He ought to have been played up front the last few weeks just roaming and waiting for things to drop from Waring or a winger - he seems to be pigeon-holed as a central midfielder but doesn't have the defensive attributes to carry out that position effectively. Danny should be selecting players in positions that play to their strengths rather than shoehorning people like Hourihane and Berry in where they aren't comfortable.

These days he's always pulling mud off from under his boots. Wasn't doing that in the early months of the season when he was banging them in. Maybe you're onto something Detective Kaht :)

Yes the mud on the boots is an issue. Maybe he should start playing in trainers.
There is another thing - his hair. When he was scoring for fun he had longer hair and since having it shorter he can't hit those sweet 25 yarders 

I would say he's been a poor player since he arrived, completely masked by goals, a lot being penalties and I can think of a few the keeper should have chucked his cap on. His creative play is average, at best, his drive and determination are non existent and I'd love to know where he gets this reputation of being a dead ball specialist? All floated, you could get big Jean knocking them into the box.

Although I don't agree with the "lazy" comments Hourihane seems to attract I can at least see where people get that opinion from. This is just crazy. He is the best set piece taker I can remember in my time at the club. Most of that time corners have pretty much been a waste of time.
