Hemmings goal last night. Looks even better on the replay just seen. If he could just add a bit more to his game he'd be a player
By 'a bit more to his game' do you mean better control, better passing, better strength when in possession, better desire, and better running? That's without mentioning his permanently dazed look, as if he doesn't understand he's in a game of a football. I'm being harsh, I know, but I can't get over how suddenly he's got potential, when other than his goal his overall performance was no better than Saturday. Again, once Winnall came on, we look a different team. Everyone saying he's a finisher, but he fluffed his only other chance last night (tough one, granted, but should have done better), and missed a howler on Saturday.
I have my doubts over Hemmings ever being up to it, but some players have made very successful careers out of just scoring goals. The problem is you need to be VERY good at scoring goals when that is all you are really contributing and I don't think Hemmings ever will be.
Yes, all of that, and a bit more. I was just trying to praise him for a cracking finish. Makes you wonder why he scuffs easier chances wide, or just doesn't bother going for the ball when it is there to be won in the box. He is a lazy player, certainly, but maybe there is something wrong in his head. Trying to make excuses for him, I know. I reckon Danny will give him another chance on Saturday but, like everyone else, I would rather see SSW back in there
He's poor. Apart from scoring his first league goal since October he did naff all else. He's easily knocked off the ball, slow, tires quickly, lacks stamina, doesn't jump for the ball and can't particularly pass so well. Got to be gone in the summer. We would be crazy to offer him a new contract.
I would start Lita personally. Even though his goal/shots contribution hasn't been fantastic in recent games, his work rate and ability to stop the ball coming straight back at us has been much better. That was in a team with less quality than what's taking to the field now, so he might look better on the former? When the ball went in to Waring, we got some breathing space and often found ourselves on the attack. When it went in to Hemmings, both last night and Saturday, it near enough always resulted in the opposition having the ball. Saying that, Hemmings got the goal, and it was a great finish.
I know it is said that there's lies, damn lies and statistics, but when Hemmings scores we always win and we've won more games than we've lost when he's been on the pitch.
Good stat! That's him in for the rest of the season then! Who knows - three or four games under his belt and he might just wake up. There's another interesting number to consider. That one on his back. "Number 10s" are often considered to be the best player in the team. Danny gave him that number. He must see something we all don't. I'll trust his thousand game judgement.
He reminds me of Nardiello with the way he plays. Good goal scorer but lacks in other areas... In all fairness I judge strikers on goals and goals alone and to be fair to the lad when he has played, he's scored. He needs a run of games, and he'll prove his worth.
When he's played, he's scored? Wasn't last night something like his 10th league start and only his second goal? Plus another ten cameos off the bench. Happy to be wrong like. As a massive Nardiello fan*, I have to say I can't see any comparison. I can't see Kane Hemmings ever curling in a free kick a'la Birmingham City at home, scoring a sensational double on his home debut, or making ex England International defender Ugo Ehiogu look like an amateur at Elland Road. Nads used to hang on the last defender and good beat a player with skill, Hemmings doesn't play that game. My main point in this thread is mainly how opinion seems to have changed overnight just because of one well taken chance. He's still the same player that didn't look up to it on Saturday, as his performance other than the goal was the same. * I did warn you I was a massive fan
