I didn't think he played great last night, body language negative, reactions slowed, didn't look happy.

But... this all seemed to change when Sam came on.
All of a sudden he was getting forward more, head up, looking to play a forward pass.

It was as though he thought he could now start to play the sort of balls that Winnall was willing to put the effort in to get to or that he would take a gamble on.

A good cross is a low trajectory, whipped ball not a floated into a general area hoping someone will make something of it ball. The best two of recent years I remember were Diego Leon and Trippier although I do seem to think theres someone I'm missing.

A good cross is one that creates a goal-scoring opportunity. Something that Conor has done on numerous occasions this season from free-kicks and corners.

But Hourihane is **** though isn't he? Doesnt matter that he's scored more than anyone else or created more than anyone else. He only scores penalties and his crosses are rubbish.

    Or something

So why do we look more dangerous (and have scored more goals) from set pieces and corners this season than in recent times?

Surely not more than when Diego Leon was whipping them in?!

Probably because we have more lads capable of getting on the end of them in the box than in recent times and yes you are correct, scoring mainly penalties and having a high assist total when your taking every set piece does not make you a great player, well done for spotting that

Assume this bit was aimed at me. I'm sure you realised I was being sarcastic but there we go. He's in his first season at this level, is still young and is part of a team that has struggled of late. He's been a real shining light for me and I just don't get the criticism. Yes he's been off form of late but again like I say, he's young and inexperienced at this level. Irrespective he's still our greatest threat along with Winnall and given time, probably Lalkovic too. If Hourihane had a better all round game (which might come with time) he certainly wouldn't be with us

He showed in the early part of this season that he is one of the most talented players we've got. He can strike a ball and thread a pass better than all of our other boys when we are playing well as a team. What was he meant to do with the two latest games?

We need to get behind our best player and encourage him back to good form. He's earned a bit of love from the fans hasn't he?!

The minute I hear somebody boo Hourihane is the minute I stop supporting the reds

    Hourihane 11 league goals
Rest of team (currently at club)17 League Goals

Oh aye he's a passenger...and that doesn't even look at his contribution in terms of assistswhere for example he is the divisions best corner taker

Some people would complain if we had signed Pele in his prime becuase he was a foriegner

Anyone got any stats on goals scored from corners taken by Diego Leon though? Come on people let's be objective in this analysis.

What I saw last night was a load of aimless ball smacked down the line for him to try and stretch to control. Especially from Nyatanga. Someone try passing the ball, on the ground, somewhere near his feet ffs.
