I need to renew my passport soon - is it just a case of filling out the form and paying or do I need to p*ss about sending documentation off?

I have no recollection of renewing it last time, it was obviously nearly ten years ago!

    Cheers.

I'm renewing mine now - £72 online, you print out a document, sign it, send in your current passport & 2 new photos & done.

Completed mine online and posted the declaration/new photo's off last Monday. Had a text today to say my new passport is being printed and to expect delivery in a few days. Not paid for any super fast service, just the standard £72 renewal.

make sure the photo meets the specific requirements.
Worth getting one done properly at a photo shop rather that a d i y one from a photo booth.

I did that first, looked at the gov.uk site and it wasn't clear what I needed to accompany the application with

Cheers all, I'll do it in the post office.

Absolute rip off - Price has gone up by about 100% since I last renewed, if only wages had as well.

I can help with this, hubby did it last week! He filled in the form online (https://www.gov.uk/apply-renew-passport), printed and signed it and sent in his old passport and 2 standard photo booths pics. He didn't pay for any special service and it arrived a couple of days ago with his old passport arriving a day later with the corner cut off. You don't need your photographs signed as long as you don't look completely different from your last pic to the extent that you are unrecognisable. Not sure why someone said they got ripped off online, he paid the £72 fee (which is the standard set fee) and not a penny more (other than postage of course). You can not send in your old passport under certain circumstances and there is a box to write why that is. The whole process online took less time than it took me to write this out and from sending it off to arriving it took around 7 days.

Could be worse. I lost my passport when I went for a job interview a few years ago. If that isn't bad enough,it was 2 days before I went on holiday. I had to call my boss, to let her know I was going to be late for work, that I needed the day off the day after and that I was handing in my notice. It cost me £128 to get a passport at short notice and I had to get to Liverpool for it. My car was in the garage as it had broken down the previous week. That was a tight month to say the least.

There is (or was very recently) a website that allowed you apply for a passport online - although it didn't claim to be a government agency, it had obviously been set up to catch out people who weren't very web savvy - It wasn't a scam in as much as they did fill out an application (and allegedly checked it beforehand) but they charged a large premium on top of the normal fee.

Ah ok. Watch out for the post office too though, they run the same kind of thing with their 'check and send' service ;) How can they check the info for me? They don't know my personal details and it's not that hard to put 2 photos in an envelope.

I think I used that service last time but it cost nearer to a fiver than over a tenner now - how the chuff do they get away with this? I know I said it earlier but in real terms my wage has probably gone down since 2005 yet these services have doubled in price.
