Fair enough. The question was more directed at Mr Stunt who has high moral values about how clubs should develop...

I'm more than happy to answer the question if it was aimed at me. That's not a problem. BFC are and will always be my club, I'm born and not manufactured. I've slogged my guts out for 35 years watching the Reds, from the days when we had nowt and had to sell to survive. But still we kept true to our values. Hard work,
tradition, loyalty etc. I can't change my allegiance even if I wanted to.

I've watched Rec for years. Since Sunday league days. A lot of my friend do/have played for them. It's taken Rec nearly 40 years to get where they have. All a progressive venture, no real outside help. They've reached their summit now. Rec have (even by Mr SLA) had a few people who've wanted to invest and take control. Rightly so IMHO the 'founders' have said no. Because from day one, in 1979 the club was formed to allow local lads an opportunity to play. Back then Sunday league, then higher and higher. No one gets a penny in wages, match fees etc. The clubs latin motto is 'more than just a club'. It is! U5's teams now alway thro to the first team. It's not all about hiring Oakwell etc, paying lads £250 a week to play on crowds of 100+. If that's the route clubs wanna go then fair dos. I haven't a problem with that. Crack on, although I wonder if it's any longevity? We'll see.

As for my 'high moral values on how a club should be run', well I have. At that level, it's how the Rec have done it over 40 years.
Mr Cryne, he's invested in a club he's supported for 60 years as its 'his club'
He didn't look thro the fone book looking to push his cash and tried to high jack the hard work other clubs had done over decades to try and get an easy head start.
I'll say it again. Good luck to SLA. To Joe, Luke etc who I hope get to laik at Wembley.

    It's just not my barrow!

No, not interested in a club linked to the fowls.

Have followed Barnsley for over 40 years myself and feel the same way. Every respect to Rec too. But the aggression and abuse SLA players get from some Rec fans goes too far in my opinion. Not necessary. Not suggesting you do this but you do say they represent 'everything folk hate round here'. I'm born and bred in Barnsley and have lived here for most of my life and I can't see it. Surely they're good for local football. Crowds of 900 are incredible for NCEL level. Healthy rivalry is one thing but some of it goes too far...

3 games away from wembley. Semis are 2 legged I do beleive would I go to wembley if they got there....maybe as my mate plays for them. If he didn't it would be a no. But the chance to see a mate play at our national stadium would be good to see.

My 'everything folk hate' comment was against your 'small minded' one.
I'd like to think people who've commented on this thread aren't small minded. If they have, and aren't knowledgeable about the subject matter then I'd agree. If, like me, they've a bit of background and are 'in the know' then I see past the Wednesday angle. That's the gripe with most. Not with me. It's far deeper than that.

The 900 crowds at this seasons fixtures is brill. Love it. I'd disagree it's a healthy rivalry tho. For most who are/aren't in the know, decide its not, some for the right and some for the wrong reasons.

In the know. So spill the beans then. Craig Wood, owner of Aquaforce plumbing. Money bags. Loves football, Wednesday fan. Wanted to get involved in a club. Tried to invest in Rec who told him to shove it. Fair play, their club their ideals their right. Sets up his own club. Pays the players. Gets a bit of success. That's as much as I know. Oh had testicular cancer too and is raising loads of money for Weston Park Hospital. What else am I missing?

    Why?

I've no affiliation with them, no relevance to me.

They play in Barnsley, fair do's. So do lots of non league clubs, I don't watch them either.

I do though have a soft spot for the Brig, as I laiked for them and crippled my knee doing so at Park Road. And, when Tarn were away back in the early noughties I used to go watch Rec because I'm an Athersley lad. They were way down the pyramid then though, but won nearly every game with Alan Smith unreal back then. Remember the day Tarn beat Sunderland (Ashley Ward scored/got sent off) I was on Carlton Park field watching Rec int rain. I've mates who play/played for em n all. Lads I grew up with.

So no, no affiliation with Aquaforce. Good luck to em n all that. But not for me.

Alan Smith is my mates Uncle. I remember him once telling us when I was about 11 that his Uncle was a footballer, said his name was Alan Smith and had me believing for about 2 years that his uncle was Alan Smith formerly of Leeds, Man U, Newcastle etc. Then one night, we went to some cup semi final at South Kirkby, AFC Barnsley vs Athersley Rec, and it all became apparent that his uncle played for the Rec, not Man United.

Have you read some of the posts on here? A non league side from Barnsley 3 matches away from Wembley and not many prepared to give em an ounce of credit. The missus got me socks...again.

It's a Barnsley Football Club forum though, not a Barnsley Football Scene forum.

I couldn't give a toss what local clubs do, be it in Barnsley or Hamilton. Good luck to them though.

The question was put to us if we'd attend if they made it to Wembley and it seems most hold a similar opinion.

Stop being daft. My point was obvious - some of us aren't interested. I wish them well/luck, as I said last night, but that's all. Not arsed what they win/lose. I care more for Rec and Brig for reasons I stated last night. But likewise, I get a bit fed up when I see Rec threads on here all the time. Just my view, not forum rules, chill art.
