Aren't we playing in exactly the same manner away from home now...

...that we were earlier in the season that brought victories at Crewe, Sheffield United & Rochdale?

You know, keep it tight, look to nick one & then hold on to it? AKA, exactly how we're playing at home at the moment?

I've not been away since Chesterfield but on the face of it, all that's happened is we've not managed to get the first goal away like we have at home. Nowt to worry about.

We have played well at 2 away games all season (Rochdale & Sheffield United) Crewe away was abysmal as were the rest of the away matches

Wont comment on Yeovil away as i wasnt there but the away games this season have been no better than last if not worst

You've missed my point mate - we've not played well at home recently but 3 days ago folk were talking about Play Off runs (which is still possible).

Yeah should be good as long as me and Whitey don't start arguing like we have at pretty much every game we've sat near each other.

Actually, might be better if that does happen.

I would say there is very little difference between how we approach a game at home and away at the moment. We have just had better results at home. Our defensive approach in all games at the moment has been highlighted away from home by the fact we have played Swindon and MK Dons in the last couple, who have been more than good enough to break down the door. Oldham and Port Vale are simply not as good. I imagine Fleetwood will also make us look slightly more positive and we may get another win and another clean sheet.

Same approach, different class of opposition.

It is a tough pill to swallow that we have to go to places like MK and Swindon and play for a point, but that's just where we are at the moment.

    Agree with all that.

Preston/Doncaster/MK Dons & Swindon. None easy games, none where we've been blown away and a couple decided because of our mistakes. It's all ok.

I agree we have played poor all season other than the odd game at home - But like you say the difference been we have scored the first goal at home

Hence the reason why i think this season as been poorer than people think

Which is reason I have no faith in Wilson, and will be happy to see him leave.

The common denominator in all three away wins this season is that we managed to get 3 or more shots on target during the 90 minutes. We give ourselves little chance when only mustering one.

Not quite. At Rochdale and United we went in search of the first goal, THEN sat back and defended. In the last 6 or so away games we've sat back and defended for the entire game, inviting good footballing sides like MK and Swindon to attack us at their leisure, and we've still lost by the odd goal. At Swindon we only tried attacking for 10 minutes in the second half, then gave up and conceded again shortly after. At Rochdale and Sheff United we didn't have an isolated 20 year old lad up front with a colossal gap between him and the midfield.

The teams we've played away recently though are higher in the table than us (Chesterfield, Swindon, MK, Preston), so hopefully with Crawley, Gillingham, Colchester, Orient etc. coming up we'll try to take the game to them.

Unless I recall wrong, we had two up at Sheff U and Williams on form. Very different to Swindon

At Sheff Utd we had Winnall (who was right on top of his game) and Cole (who actually had a very poor game that day, but still had the threat of his pace) plus Williams (who had a great game, they just couldnt pick him up). Hourihane was also playing very well, we had a proper left back and competition for places all over the pitch.

We didn't go to there and attack from this 1st whistle, dominate possession and have 10 shots on target. We just looked VERY solid, dealt with almost everything they threw at us and looked a real threat on the counter attack.

I would say that game is the last time we had all of those things mentioned in the first sentence and without them we have been left short. If we went to Swindon and "went for it" we would have been battered.

Of our 11 league away goals, 7 are from Hourihane set pieces (6 corners and a penalty), 2 are tap ins (Lita and Treacy), a Cole volley and a Hourihane 35 yarder.

At home, we're a bit better in sharing the load. 26 goals scored, and whilst Hourihane is responsible for many of them, scoring or creating, we've had others stepping up to the plate, although it's to be noted that Cole, Brown, Dudgeon and Trotta have since departed, who were involved in quite a few. Hemmings' 2 league goals came at Oakwell, he's in and out. And Lita hasn't scored at home full stop, not anywhere for 20 odd games. And, Winnall's been out for three months...

    So lets drop Hourihane.

It's going to take a good sales person to sell season passes if they don't sack Wilson

No it's not - lately the away formation has been to keep it tight (by playing 9 defenders) and hopefully nick a point. Change it if we're losing
Before it was keep it tight but have players on the pitch who could hopefully nick all three - that's the difference.
Best we can hope for with current away set up is one point whereas we could nick all three with the other set up.
