Got internet with Virgin media and i don't know if it's the wifi range thats bab or whether its the layout of my house that causes poor wifi downstairs. Wanting to stream films and what not through tele downstairs (superhub is upstairs). Someone's been telling me about these powerline adapters, essentially uses your electric cabling to transfer internet connection using 2 plug sockets. Already have an edimax wifi extender but its still too far away from where i want to use it. Anybody familiar or currently using one?
Yeah mate I use powerline adapters, they work fine as long as you're using an ethernet cable at the other end.
I use them all over my house, I think they're great. I have it coming from my router into the powerline, then into an unmanaged switch on the other end. from there I have 4 computers connected in my office, and it also goes into another router that i have connected to another 9 computers in my office, that need to be on their own network for aspects of my job. They work well, and can transfer a high speed connection with less latency than wifi. Higly reccommended.
Cheers lads. It's looking like the way to go. Do you run an ethernet to it from your hub, then an ethernet at the other end into laptop/playstation/tele whatever your connecting it to? Any recommendations for models?
generally very good .... but get one that also allows a cable connect, for the more far away rooms. Are you using one of Virgins Routers ? BTW
I use them. They're great. As it happens I was just reading this article last night as I'm thinking of upgrading. Might give you some pointers on which to buy. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/test-centre/network-wifi/3490638/15-best-powerline-adapters-2015-uk/
Yeah, a superhub from a few years back, wired connection is decent, wifi is a bit poor. Cheers Jay, just been reading that
basically my advise for what its worth get rid of the ISP router go out and get a high speed router with longer range... netgear for example. the routers the ISP's provide are normally basic and *****. I use a netgear router ... I can stand 2 streets away on my laptop and still get decent connection.... btw I do not stand 2 streets away ( the magistrate stopped me doing that long ago, as its next to a junior school)... but my garden is about 150 meters long and up in the summer house its still very good
Re: basically my advise for what its worth I've got an edimax wifi booster and it helps a little but not loads.
Try Solwise products. I've used a few down the years and these are the best I've had. Small company based in Hull but really good support. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
