Totally agree, he was my first choice when Flicker was sacked. We'll never know if he'd have been able to cut it with us but he's been a success everywhere he's been. He certainly deserved the chance to have a go.
Agree, he was my first choice too when Flicker was sacked. I think he deserved a chance to have a longer spell.
I'll never understand why Mellon never got more of a chance, there was an obvious improvement when he took charge. That Yeovil game was abysmal in his last game, but no worse than the majority we've seen since.
He was regarded as part of the problem, rightly or wrongly, which resulted in Flitcroft being sacked. Similar to the attitude which would prevailed by the fans wanting Wilson out had Hutchings remained to take charge.
Melon, Flicker, Hill have all done well before and after managing us. Maybe the board are the problem with why so many managers fail here and do well elsewhere.
I would have thought if the club saw him as part of the problem he would have gone at the same time. It was Danny that outed him in favour of Hutchins I went to the Burnley game and was satisfied with that performance. I also saw the game at Leeds as basically ran by Mellon as it was in Danny's transition, a game we were close to taking all the points.
Perhaps I should've made my point clearer. I was referring to some of the fan base, rather than those running the club. It was also the same reaction when Hill was sacked and some of the fans wanted Flitcroft out too, as he was also regarded as being part of the problems resulting in the manager's departure.
Spot on , we played good football at Leeds , Burnley and Brighton , Yeovil was poor but looking back better than what we've experienced since
Yes your right there but the signals from the club was melon was well thought of and pairing him up with Danny looked a good option. Though you could sense the tension between them and there was only ever going to be one winner there, But like I say I credit melon with 4 games, 1 win 2 draws and a loss. And I thought he was worth a go.
Don't Shrewsbury have one of the biggest budgets in the league? I'm pretty sure they're only where most tipped them to be. He ****ed up any chance he had of getting the job in that Yeovil game
Had Mellon been appointed manager straight after Flitcroft's sacking, even if it were only to the end of the season, I wouldn't have had an issue with it, either. However, I'm aware that a great deal of fans would have, as some would have done had Hutchings been kept on as caretaker manager.
