As long as you are happy kicking round the bottom of League 2 /conference then that's reasonable. If you hoping to be competitive above that then unless you have an alternative plan (which we clearly don't) then you have to compete with those splashing their money around. The statement from Mansford confirmed this is the model we favour.

John Dennis in my opinion, he did a lot more good than bad.

If every club lived in their means we'd be nowhere near the level you are saying. After our past history I can't be the only fan who's worried about how much overspending we do. We are just as bad as other clubs that do the same and get bashed for it.

That statement from Mansford as caused me to have a real downer on the club.
Sad times indeed for something I really care about.

I don't think that the club was run particularly well during that era - we had a two season flirtation with the big time, but it always felt more by luck than judgement. When Viv Anderson clearly didn't work out, we were lucky that we had Danny on the staff and he was given a go.

The financial mismanagement that followed the Premier League season, and construction/refurbishment of a stadium we rarely fill, plus the waste after waste after waste of money on journeyman players and managers has been a travesty. A sheer demonstration of financial imprudence.

John Dennis wasn't astute in his dealings. The club wasn't well run. It isn't well run now. As long as I have been alive the club has had every aspect of a charity shop that depends on the good will and loyalty of locals to keep it alive.

I'd love to see a shrewd person running the club in a transparent way - I'd love to see some sense of purpose, of progress, of improvement. Wouldn't any fan of any club? I have seen Barnsley in pretty much terminal decline since 1998 - with the odd bubble of optimism along the way that has usually burst pretty quickly. I actually thought that Danny was trying to consolidate something and gradually improve it. I thought that we were going to get out of the hiring and firing cycle.

I'm so down about the situation right now that I honestly think we should just close the gates and walk away. Football is ****ed. BFC is ****ed.

I absolutely agree. Unfortunately we cant make every one else behave responsibly and we have abandoned any alternative strategy. It is what is making me question my future attendance. Until we genuinely develop aong term plan and stick to it we are ******.

But why should we be thanking Cryne for bankrolling us when he's at the top of the tree allowing our overspending to go on? I'm really worried with the latest accounts that one day we will end up back in admin or worse. We should only spend what we earn and be self sufficient.

The second before the extended interview with Mansford was released.

I understand Danny being moved on. I wasn't angry about it, just sad (with it being Danny), but then when the extended interview came out, or when I read it, and it was business this and business that, I was unimpressed.

I personally don't see a need for a change at the top and to challenge anything.

Sums up my feelings perfectly - especially about the myth over JD.

Again I don't disagree however if we did this in isolation we would have to accept that we would never be able to compete outside the lower leagues again. We would have to communicate this clearly to the fans so that expectations were lowered. We could hope to be like Crewe I guess in a scenario where we absolutely balanced the books every year. Pretty daunting prospect for any club with any sort of history.

Hold on here. Mistakes were made for sure and none greater than not putting Cryne's offer to the shareholders and also in not calling an EGM when admin was certain but JD was astute. £4.5 million for Ashley Ward for a start. Balls out to get as much as poss instead of being rolled over and tickled.

And not sure of your intention re the ground but the redevelopment is fantastic and given our position at the time quite correct. There was some foresight in building the superb East Stand with a capacity greater than out average attendance!

Would you rather us be in a 10k new build? We'd definitely be ****ed into a cocked hat then...

Don't quote me on this, but I'm sure I heard recently that John Dennis agreed to sell Ward for £1.5 million, but the manager said no, they returned with £2.5 million which the board accepted but again the manager said no, and they then came back with £4.5 million and the sale was agreed.

It was fairly recently I heard this I'm sure. Maybe at the De Zeeuw thing? I don't know, but don't think you can use that sale as an example of that regime being better negotiators than the current establishment.

Ignore me. I know for certain I heard Dennis agreed twice to sell Ward, but my memory is shot to pieces so I can't add any substance to it.

So I was almost right? That'll do for me today. Haven't left the sofa for near on ten hours and my brain has been scambled all day.

Man flu if I roll in to work tomorrow with a two day hangover. If I'm right as rain in the morning, just the aftermath of fizz, wine and gin!
