I definitely think we saw the best from him but in that last season, was it '89 / '90 he was outstanding.
Cryne and Mansford will tell everyone in the Old Number 7 on Thursday night ! Or they will buy everyone a pint and talk a load of ballax , one way or the other!
Except it's true. You think Oldham fans, the board and the owner EXPECT them to be in the play off places after they've sold players to pay for a new stand? No, of course not. He's done a good job under difficult circumstances. But look at the pressure Wilson was under from the fans, the board and owner. It's a different situation and a difficult one for a guy who has 100+ games under his belt. Had we not have the penchant for a sacking managers I wouldn't have made the statement, but since we do have then I can only presume the cap fits....
Hmmmmmmmmm.

Spoke to Lee Johnson earlier about Barnsley. Lee Johnson just doesn't seem to fit with the little bits that have come out of the club (ie Mansford's interviews) for me. I must admit I don't know a lot about the bloke but he's very inexperienced and Oldham certainly haven't pulled up any trees this season, yes they're in the play-off positions but the league is so tight it doesn't seem particularly relevant. With the club saying they want to make sure they make the right appointment, I'm not sure how Johnson could be seen as anything other than a massive gamble and we could well be in exactly the same position in less than 12 months time, possibly in an even worse position. As much as I reluctantly agreed that the results under Danny weren't good enough, and wasn't surprised that he was sacked, getting someone like Johnson in would surely be a backwards step. I am realistic though and I wouldn't have thought someone like Adkins or Rosler would have come to us in the Championship, never mind struggling in League One, and if Johnson is the next target then maybe those two as well as several others have already turned the job down. I know it hasn't been that long but it only takes a couple of minutes to make a phone call so it's quite realistic that they've already gone down a big list of people. The odds of 1/3 at the moment suggest that a bit of money has been put on him so you have to assume that there are people in the know who are taking advantage of the situation.
90-91. I only remember because my mam died that same summer, and Gazza cried in Italy etc. I became truly obsessed with football from 1990 onwards. I think I escaped in it. Now, I'd love to escape from it.
I know what you mean mate. Being in love with the game all is a very distant memory now. Sorry about your Mum too.
I've just had that same conversation with Hicksy on twitter. Most of us - I think - only go because we 'just do' and to have 'mates' time away from the missus etc. Maybe it's an age thing?
I think you're right. I said the same to Ponty a few weeks ago. I go because the alternative is even less attractive.
Fook that !!!!!!!! Our new gaffer will get 20 games from me. Then it's knifes out! Our CEO says that's long enough, if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me. Someone out, someone out, anyone out, just get out.... Out out out
If i don't go, then I have to go with her to watch Huddersfield. I don't mind when BFC are away, but I've been a couple of times midweek when Tarn are at home. Just feels wrong. I can't escape football.
You know there was a time I'd go home and away and couldn't imagine not watching them play. Things changed, I still looked for results but it didn't bother me that I wasn't going. These days I wish I could go every week, but money and a 4 year old mean I can't.
