According to Ben Mansford's interview on Radio Sheffield last week the new manager will be required to win promotion back to the Championship at the earliest opportunity while at the same time sell players to finance the running of the club. I cannot imagine a more impossible task for a football manager or such a flawed business model.

The gate receipts and commercial activities should fund the running of the club. Until we stop signing contracts that require a cash injection from the owner or the sale of a player in order to be fulfilled, this club is doomed to failure and will continue to rack up the debt. To improve as a team and a club we need to live within our means, so any money from the sale of a player can be used to fund the purchase of better players. If it is used to fund the running of the club and to pay the wages of players already here, because contracts were signed that take the outgoings beyond the incomings, we will never be able to sign the talent required to sustain any success. We will forever be flogging anyone of value to balance the books. I don't want Mr Cryne to continue injecting money, I want someone to submit a budget that keeps us in the black, so we can use any windfall from player sales and cup runs to improve the team rather than offset what Mr Cryne is required to put in.

Any manager you care to mention, however good he is, from however high up the football pyramid, will not win promotion with Barnsley FC if he is required to sell his better players and that money is then used to balance the books. It's virtually impossible. To ask him to do so will guarantee his failure and in 18 months time (or less) we'll be looking for someone else to have a go with a system that cannot work. I'm not saying we shouldn't sell players, we have to, that is the reality for a club like ours. Even if we don't need the money we cannot prevent a player leaving if his heart is set on it. That's probably a good thing really, there are no other businesses that can prevent someone moving up in their profession, or if there are, there shouldn't be. But we can't sell our good players, use that money on the running of the club and expect success. You've got expect that if the talent leaves you'll perform worse.

As a result of this, I really don't care who the next manager is because he hasn't got a chance in hell of succeeding in what the club want him to do. In a few months or maybe just weeks, the same people who have demanded the sacking of the last few managers will demand the sacking of this next one. The patience of the board, longer than the torch bearers but significantly shorter than the average Barnsley fan, if the polls on here and the lack of chants at the ground are to be believed, will probably be tested about Christmas time and we'll get rid. I can't see the point of showing any interest in who that will be.

Until there is a significant change of mindset from the board, or a change in personnel, we'll continue to repeat the pattern because the system we have put in place is unworkable.

Can whoever is going Thursday, please ask Patrick if he regrets that 'definition of madness' statement prior to appointing Hill? Because it would appear we've actually used that quote in the wrong meaning. As though we've thought, "it's madness to keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome, so lets try and prove that wrong a few times.."

If everything I said was noted down and repeated every time I contradicted myself, I'd be ******. Thankfully I'm in a position where no one pays any attention to what I say in the slightest, so I don't have to suffer that. Whatever Mr Cryne may or may not have done wrong while at this football club, and all that is dependant on opinion, we shouldn't really throw individual sentences back at him years after he said/wrote them. I'm probably guilty of doing that myself like, but as I said above, no one will remember because what I say doesn't matter.

"Nar then, Ben. How can a bloke who refers to the club as a business on numerous occasions in a ten minute interview, even suggesting the decision to remove the manager was based on business rationale, then claim his words were taken out of context? Tidy, cheers."
