Can someone shake their head in disgust, maybe even whisper the words '**** sake' if anyone actually does ask about ******* Lindleys, Tina Tyke or the basterd TV's not being switched on? Cheers.

I'll be making it explicitly clear that anyone that even mentions bottle tops, scoreboards, water under seats & Lindleys will be taken round the back of Number 7 and violently loved by TFP. Immediately.

Can someone have a word about that broken glass stuck in the top of the walls at back of the west stand. I've cut my hands to ribbons trying to get out at half time of most home matches this season.

But when you only issue a statement once every couple of years, and it's purpose is to outline a long term strategy, then I think its fair enough that you will be held to account over it.

BTW I completely agree with your post. This is what frustrates me, it was the plan the club was pretty much selling in the summer of 2011 and then inevitably ditched

I don't think there's anything wrong with holding him to account for the substance within the statement, just the throwaway quote that began it. (I probably don't mean wrong, I mean fair.) If we really want to get pernickety about it, Einstein never even said it.

I reckon there's much more to go on in body of that statement, much more that requires analysis, much more of what Mr Cryne felt was his vision for the future of the club than in the opening couple of lines which were only used as a bridge to get us in to it.

It's ideal for piss taking, as Whitey pointed out, and while there's nothing wrong with that per se, wasting Cryne's time with it at the meeting won't do him or anyone else there any good. Challenge him on that statement by all mens, but not the opening line that makes him look like a hypocrite, because I believe that quote would do the same to us all.

That's all I was doing today with it.

In my blog last week, I referred to the full quotes from 2011, and had my say on it then. No piss taking. My opinions on the sacking of yet another manager etc. I've since spoken to folk at the club. I think they intended to run with that strategy, but **** happened. I'm not sure that is the strategy they have in place now, it would seem that we've attempted to fund a quickfire promotion, and Danny's paid the price for seemingly not looking likely to achieve it.

Everyone knows my thoughts on that. I disagree with much of what's gone off over the last few years. Doesn't make those in charge 'liars' or cnuts or whatever. They make decisions, big ones, and they'll be praised/criticised. But I won't bore folk again.
I always speak my mind, nowt wrong with that. I prefer folk who do likewise. I know that they (at the club) understand that, because they understand that we're supporters who want what they want - success, a happy BFC.

I won't be there tomorrow, it's not practical I'm afraid. But I will look forward to finding out how it went.

If we were funding a quick fire promotion and Pat was willing to be dipping in his pocket again, why did we hang abart until O`grady was sold and off the wage bill before bringing in more players. Dunt seem to add up.

I can only assume that's what we were doing. It seems we've got shut of Danny because we were stranded mid table despite us being one of the biggest spenders in the division, and according to Ben, with one of the biggest budgets etc. He also referred to half a season (ish) as long enough. I think it's pretty clear from his interview that the clubs ambition/aim this season was the top six, minimum.

Do I think this was relayed back to supporters last summer? No. I remember them saying we'd be competitive. And all Danny talked about at that point was patience, and of building summat with young players to the fore.

And as you say, why - if we were gunning for promotion at the earliest opportunity - did we not start recruiting until we got shut of COG, Steele, Bobby et al?

It dunt add up. Tha reight. Tomorrow night we may get some answers.

Lets hope so, any idea how long this meeting is because I can imagine young Benji having been training in the art of time wasting with long winded answer where they are not needed and veering off on different tangents that no one wants to listen to. He`ll be like Sir Alex with his stopwatch.

Can imagine Pat going on about the reasoning why he bought the club in the first place and twanging them heart strings.

Also if we aint got a manager by then will there be a late phone call cancelling their attendance.

Cynical to the end that's me.

Referring back to the original post, is there a chance that Ben was taken out of context or didn't explain himself well and that he meant that the buying of new players was dependent on selling of players to raise the funds?

As it is, it possibly wouldn't be a tall order for a successful manager to do this, as the transfer window only opens twice a year, so he gets several months inbetween times to improve our fortunes before anyone is sold, and if we move up the league and start winning the chances are that our attendances will also increase, reducing the need for selling purely to balance the books. And if we are doing well, chances are we'd have clubs sniffing round our better players anyway. There has to be some success though, and quickly.

Admittedly, this type of model leaves little room for error on the recruiting front, but that's the case for most clubs. I would imagine that, thanks to the low crowds they still get, Rochdale won't be able to invest all the Matty Done money in new players. It probably does rule out picking up the more established players who demand bigger wages though, but that's not necessarily a problem, as it is this type of player who has been letting us down recently. I wish we could have the money back that we've wasted on the likes of Mido, Treacy, Lita, etc. I'm pretty sure that we would have gladly sold Cranie in the transfer window too, had anyone come in for him, as I would expect he is the last one left on a proper daft wage, maybe Jennings too.

I would hope that the main considerations for any new manager are:

    - bring in younger players with potential that can hopefully bring us in a profit (which we've sort of been doing)
    - play attractive football to try to entice the crowds back (which we haven't been doing)
    - win matches and move up the league to attract the crowds back (which we also haven't been doing)

If he fails in the latter two points his job is going to be more difficult, as we're going to have to keep pulling the rug under his feet and sell his best players. And by this, I also mean that if we are playing more attractive football, winning, moving up the league and still the crowds aren't increasing it will still be deemed a failure and we are still going to have to sell players to balance the books. If this is the case though, would we deserve any better as you'd really hope that an upturn in success and performances on the pitch would see an upturn in numbers in the stands.

But if he fails with the latter two points AND fails with the first point he's going to be needing to update his cv. I would imagine that this was the issue the board had with Wilson, in that the footy was poor, the results were poor, the crowds subsequently weren't increasing and no money is coming in from any players he has improved. At least Hill made us a few quid. The irony then is that the next in the firing line starts from an even weaker position, as a chunk of money is needed to pay off the last bloke, so the more managers we go through the less time the next bloke has to get it right.

So, not an impossible task, but f*cking close to it! We need a new manager to not only come in and win games, but win them well to bring the crowds back, and to do this whilst increasing the value of the players if he wants any chance of improving his squad. This points to a younger manager or someone adept at bringing on young players, as someone like Warnock would rely on the tried and trusted players who would cost more money in wages and would have no resale value. We'd then pretty soon hit a brick wall, as any money from an increase in the crowd would dissapear into the running costs with no money coming in to replace the outgoing players.
