Only because (and this is the best bit) we didn't realise how good he was. I'm absolutely speechless.

No scoring system in place. **** me 9000 fans week on week could see how good he was. What does that say about the coaching staff

It says what we all suspected and has been confirmed tonight. Run like a corner shop.

That's absolute ********! Jim O'Brien said at a Fit Reds session that they all thought at the club that he'd play for England in 2 positions.

It's quite staggering. The ineptitude at the Club, under those circumstances. They could have asked any Barnsley fan, and they would have given better advice. No stats needed. Just ******* eyes. That admission has made me quite angry.

I'm not sure I even believe it about the £2.2M - didn't David Moyes recently say it was about £1.5M?

A select band of 50 jaws hit the floor. I've defended the sale of Stones, or rather, I've argued against the use of hindsight when people moan about it, but no more. **** me if football can be that amateur at the level we were playing at.

I was fcking fuming when he told this story! Sat right infront of him i asked him what flitcroft thought about stones!? And he talked *****. He asked donald frickin rowing what he thought of stones and he said flitcroft dint think that much of stones. What!? I must dig out those comments.

What absolute ******! I just dint want to jump in any further on the qna or id have taken that further. When myself who is not a pure football person but rather a spectator and someone whom plays a but could see john stones was truly unique i said put a 10m price tag on him. 2.2m pounds. **** me.

Either PC has either **** on donald or donald really did sell this club down the river on john stones. Either way it complete utter negligence.

It really was a moment that shut everybody up. I couldn't quite believe it to be honest. I debate about spending more than a tenner on a CD, so you would have thought a bit more consideration would have given to a deal like that.

Yes let it go and ignore it so we can continue to be run by inept buffoons all the way down to blue square north.

We didn't know how good he was.

    Are they actually ****ing serious?

I knew the board were at the very least a bit *****, but this takes the biscuit.

After 2 or 3 appearances we were comparing him to beckenbauer.

And flicker didn't rate him? Not in any way an attempt to Palm blame off on someone who already has a low rating amongst fans. Flicker was many things but not for one minute do I believe that he didn't think John Stones was a special talent.

Well done to Everton, they must have pissed themselves after doing the deal.

'Moyesy, it's bill kenwright, I've just had rob elstone on the phone. We've done the deal for the lad from barnsley'.

'Stones? Brilliant, he's going to be a worldy. Nice one bill. How's my budget? Did we get any change from £6million?'

'Hahahahahaha lets just say you can fill the wine cupboard in your office'

'Very good, did they ask for a sell on clause?'

'No but I did have to give in to Don Rowings demands. Wouldn't take no for an answer. I've had to get him two tickets for the next series of Sunday night at the London palladium. Had to call in a favour for that. He wanted train tickets too but he agreed he'd just whack those on his Barnsley expenses.'

'Sounds like Barnsley are tough negotiators'

'You're not kidding. We nearly had to sit down before they pissed themselves with excitement and accepted our first offer. I wouldn't mind but I only offered £2million with a 200k add on. I was taking the piss. Wish I'd offered them 350k and a pre season friendly now'

'Oh are we having a preseason friendly? That might make them a few quid'

'No the thick ****ers didn't even ask for that. I'm amazed oakwell isn't a pile of rubble or permanently on fire'

I defended the sale if it was £3.5m will a sell on clause as for a player of his age and experience it would have been a good deal when you look at the history of prices paid for 17 year old right backs in world football. Perhaps surprisingly there weren't more clubs interested, it would have certainly pushed the price up.

However, £2.2m is clearly a poor return, even worse if there is no sell on clause, which Im hoping someone who was there last night might confirm!?!
