By all accounts, demands a lot of his players and coaching teams and puts in the hard hours studying/watching the game. Appears deeply passionate about his football whatever his role throughout his career. Against that, has had more than the occasional tantrum, and has deeply unattractive political views, in so far as that is relevant. He also does not appear to relish outside influences (such as budgetary considerations) interfering with his plans. All in all, one thing that can be guaranteed should PDC be appointed is that life would not be boring. It may go tits up - it may lead on to greatness. But it would be engaging, to say the least. He will not be appointed because if you listen to Patrick Cryne at the Old No 7 event, it's clear he has a deep understanding and sympathy with the predominant political inclination of this area. ("Scabs" used as a motivating call when addressing the players before the Forest game). So I don't think there's any way on God's green earth that he would sanction an appointment which would be so divisive to the locals, much as I would like to see it.

I don't think there is an obsession, but when it was looking like either him or Lee Johnson then he was certainly the better candidate of the two. I wanted Rosler or Adkins, but I think both are unrealistic.
