LJ takes over. Not able to sign many players due to the time of year etc. we finish this season mid tableish, no better off than we are now. Signs a boat load of 'his' players over the Summer. Next season, Jan is nearly finished. We're equally as far off the play offs as relegation. What would you do? Ps this isn't an underminded dig, troll or fishing experiment. It's more of a gauge on the patience/expectations of the modern day fan who increasingly want the 'x factor fame - success machine' to kick straight in.
First of all, I believe that the "contingent" you refer to are not so much anti-DW as anti the overall performances of DW's teams. It follows then..........I personally would be ok with us being halfway in the league next season if we could see something representing footballing pleasure on the pitch - something which got the crowd going, which in itself would represent progress for us.
it cant be the modern day fan wanting the x factor fame that got D.W the sack, there was very little negativity toward him from the supporters. So maybe we should gauge the patience of our modern day directors and board, they are as much to blame as anyone for wanting the 'success machine to kick in,they've made the decision that has put the club where it is,both on and off the field.
my take is that the board acted, not just because of league position, but because of the quality on the pitch and the fear that we were looking down, not up. the prospect of a second successive relegation would cost any manager on the planet his job. and rightly so. not saying that would have happened - who knows, we may have gone on a spin. but that's never looked like happening. now he's served his time, i can say on reflection, it was some of the worst football i've seen in my 25 years.
I beg to differ too. For quite some time we have had either bad or indifferent performances, hence the responses on here. Many subsequently became anti-DW because of this. To suggest that there always was a significant bunch on here willing DW (and thus the team) to fail is I believe incorrect. I answered your question anyway....but don't understand the middle part of your second paragraph.
There clearly was a small but vociferous element on here who wanted Wilson to fail from the start and were willing him to do so never happier than when we lost or more silent than when we won. I would be unsurprised if the same people will be on Johnson's back right from the start. And at the first sign of anything other than instant success these Sky TV generation of fans will rear their ugly heads as soon as night follows day.
I was a "never wanted him back" but I didn't want him to fail FFS, if they'd av put Pol Pot in charge I'd have still wanted us to win. The reason I didn't want him back wasn't the Wednesday thing, it was his lack of success with decent budgets over the years. A decent budget largely wasted, mostly awful football and clueless tactics, that's why he had to go.
Didn't Pol Potts win that reality show singing opera? Point proven, thanks. I'm not on about DW really, I'm on about the future. From now onwards what will the stance be if we're no further on in 12-18 months time? It's a question, yes about BFC, but about football in general. Some are writing him off already FFS(to pinch your phrase). Just wondered about opinions.
Pretty much my thoughts, too. If we're showing some positive signs on the pitch, and the young squad is continuing to improve (neither of which were happening under Wilson) than I'd be happy for us to stick with it. Surely nobody can argue that we were going forward under Wilson? The performances were mainly awful.
But "no further on" - what does that mean? If that means the performances are still dreadful (combined with no league position improvement) then any manager 12 months on would be in trouble.
I know I'm not a part of the anti Danny Wilson contingent (I'll always rate him as a man & manager, no matter what anyone else thinks), but from my point of view, I will show the same level of patience & tolerance to Lee Johnson as I did to Danny and I'll back him 100%.
I'm not anti Wilson, so probably shouldn't comment. But I can't keep my mouth shut. I'll try to show the same patience with Johnson as I did with Wilson, although, to be honest, until Winnall was injured I didn't feel the need to show patience. I'd pretty much written last season off before Wilson even got the job and although I was excited about the loan players we brought in, that soon evaporated when I saw them actually play. I hoped, but really I knew we were doomed. I was enjoying this season up until December, thought we were playing well, just not getting the results. And I don't need patience because we're **** for a couple of months, particularly when we won the majority of home games in that time. In reality, I'll probably not have the same patience with Johnson. I know Wilson and I like him. I don't know anything about Johnson. I'm human, aware of my faults, of which there are many, and know I'm more likely to give people I care about more leeway. But even if I'm a bit more sarcastic about his tenure, I know I won't be calling for his head, even if we're bottom of the league. If we're in a similar position as now, I doubt I'll even complain. I don't think we will be though. I'm with Ben Mansford, I think we've signed a number of good players this season who will be even better next season after having a year in this league. The younger players will be a year older, a year wiser and 100% better. I reckon Johnson will sign 3 or 4 players, a couple of whom will shine and next season we'll be doing OK. Probably not top two, but top six or there abouts. The only thing that irks about all that is that Patrick Cryne went to great lengths to stress it was Danny Wilson who identified and signed the players. Ben Mansford today went to great lengths to stress how good they were and how great it was to see seven academy players make their debut this season. All just after we sacked the manager who brought those players in and gave those young lads their debuts. It doesn't add up, but I'm going to have to learn to let that go.
I was worried that stepping back in time with Danny wouldn't work out and was disappointed he left. I was 100% behind him when he was manager as I was previous managers. I am now fully supportive and behind LJ and I believe this is a good appointment. My expectations this season are:- To go from being a drab side to one that's more entertaining. To maintain the belief in youth but balance with experience To see players in their best position and get the best from them To be able to understand what the plan is and bring back belief To see us compete and finish in the top half rather than edge on the relegation fringes. To see the BBS show more solidarity for supporting the teams and club (oh well 5 out of 6 isn't bad). Constructive observation and comments I like, targeting players simply as 'rubbish' doesn't create much debate.
I believe it was a minority who wanted Danny out. They won't be around at the moment just pop back on Saturday afternoon between 5 and 6pm if we lose, there'll be a frenzy of new posts from them then utter silence until we lose our next game.
