I would let the armed forces in for free if it was down to me and I don't think there would be many who would kick up a fuss about it.
Well he should get in for nowt...Tens of thousands in the armed forces nearer to my mate's story...fail to see why they're subsidised.
Lad I know killed himself after returning from Afghanistan after being sent home due to trauma, he saw his best friend blown up by a land mine.
No, the junior ranks pay is a scandal considering what they do. Trust me I know what I'm talking about.
Don't doubt it...Let's return to the OP's point... So a lad returns from combat duty...He's made redundant for austerity...Unable to find work has to sign on. So I assume he now has to pay full whack?
We used to do summat similar in Barmsley called Passport To Leisure saved me from going crazy when I was unemployed for a couple of months got you into match/Metrodome etc for cheap. That was before we started hated and bullying people who lose their jobs. Statements like the OP show me we have lost all sense of care for people. Saddening indictment of the impact of Thatcherism.
I have to admit, I had to re-read the OP and the next few posts before I realised what he was outraged about. I had presumed he was unemployed and thought the £15 was too much! It never occured to me that someone would complain about the unemployed getting a discount.
It's a fantastic gesture, more clubs should do it at more games. Barnsley lost a lot of supporters who never came back when they refused to offer a subsidy for the striking miners, thankfully more clubs are now trying to integrate into their local community. Unfortunately there's always people like the OP around who can only see what they don't have rather than what they do.
And OAPs get in cheaper, it's ******* disgusting. Clear age discrimination. They should charge the old buggers more, they've had all their lives to save up for it.
Don't think many would afford it anyway.. £15 ticket £27 on official coach and £20 beer/snap. I'm not sure what allowance is nowadays ? (unless they eat into savings)
30 years this week since the strike finished,so as a gesture all us ex miners should get in for nowt till the end of the season,,come on pat,you know it makes sense.
It's not like they are conscripted to go fight Nazi Germany. I've sympathy for those who signed up due because it's the only job they could find. Or those who are too stupid to know any better. But those who chose to get shot at for a career, couldn't give a toss.
Firemen and policeman risk their lives, for arguably something more worthwhile than shooting foreigners in a far off land. But we'll forget that bit and give them a reduction because "we don't realise how brave they are." What is this ********?
I'm not sure what it is mate. It sounds like you're getting angry because a few people who get shot at for living, because governments we voted in decided to go war, are getting a few quid off a football match, and I don't understand that kind of attitude at all.
If we're being pedantic then I'm not sure fire-fighters risk their lives these days. With all the regulations in place, there aren't many severe fires to attend in this day and age. Over the last 26 years there has been an average of 1 fatality a year with firemen attending fires. I don't even think that fire-fighting is in the top 10 list of dangerous jobs any more - I think there have been more fatalities in the UK with window cleaners, construction workers, fishermen and miners.
ohh ohh, controversial post, and something which I agree with (which I suspect is an unpopular view) Edit: Having now read the thread, it appears very controversial. I'll shut up now.
