He has similar medical issues to Darren Fletcher when he was at Manchester United. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/29745843
I've got Crohn's disease, which is closely related to ulcerative colitis. It's going to be very, very difficult (not impossible) for him I imagine to get his fitness to League One football levels. If he has the same treatement as me, which it looks like he has (2 hour infusions of a drug called infliximab) then while it's possible to have an active lifestyle, hold down a job, do some training etc then it just leaves me feeling knackered all the time, which is not great for a footballer...
And all that's before you mention the faecal vomiting. I guess it depends on the severity of his disease and how he responds to treatment. I've known three people with colitis and it's run the gamut. One had to have his bowel removed because he didn't seek treatment (******* hell fire!) and very nearly died, but manages now to have a good life albeit with toilet issues. Another seems to always be having problems with it, but gets on because even though he's a skinny little chap, he's as tough as old boots. He gets tired a lot though. For the third it only flares up occasionally and she's usually OK. The one thing a footballer has going for him is that although the training sessions can be intense, they're short and there's a lot of time for rest. Hope it doesn't **** the lad's career up before it's even started.
This is all adding to the story. This time next year Mike Phenix is going to be a phenomenon. Good luck Mike, hope you get well soon.
sorry lads not been on for a while, the guy above is correct its inflamab - hes responded really well considering he looked 2 stone piss wet after surgery... hes back in full training - so far so good... his next infusion is in a few weeks - hopefully its sorted it out...
