fook me....ant tha got owt else to do! Are you going to see the queen beforehand...thas got long enuff. safe trip....and bring those 3 points back!!
New ground for me chief, looking forward to it, overnight stay as well. Can't belive turn around in 4 weeks since Crawley game
New ground for me as well, as was Gillingham. Fairly straightforward journey - Southfields> Notting Hill Gate> Leyton
I went to watch Orient play Bristol Rovers in the cup a few years ago, as I was leaving London and it was the only league ground (then) in the south east that I hadn't been to. The surrounding area and pubs were a bit grim, but it was a fab ground with an excellent little bar, albeit under a home stand. It was a tiny little thing a bit smaller than downstair in the No. 7. We went in pre-match and asked the lass behind the bar how busy it gets at half-time and she said it can get packed, so we went down a bit early. However, at no point during the interval could you not walk up and get served within a minute. Honestly, if they had that bar under the Ponty it would be bedlam. So if you can keep a lid on who you are supporting go in the stand opposite the tunnel, as that bar is the best football ground bar I've been to, narrowly knocking the Accrington Stanley clubhouse into second place.
The ones that I went in were all horrible, but I know the London lads have sorted out a good pub to meet up in. I think they're getting there from around 4:30. I can't find the e-mails with the name of it, but I'll ask them and will let you know. Certainly I wouldn't advis getting to the tube station and going in any between there and the ground. The one the London lads are meeting in is a few minutes in the opposite direction, about a ten minute walk from the ground. I'll let you know.
We went last year when the Charlton match got postponed and said the same thing! Brilliant little bar to have inside the ground....
Ah, but Redfearns isn't in the ground. You can pop to the other two for a half time pint and even get served in proper glasses at Accrington, whilst eating the hot food and watching the men who watch football on Sky Sports. If you can sort out a back door at Redfearns for half time you're in with a shout!. When me and Molly went to Accrington, just before the end of the game the tannoy announcer invited everybody back to the clubhouse after the game, where the MOTM presentation would be made by England 1966 World Cup winner...John Connolly! Great day out, Accrington, but I would hate for Barnsley to play there as I don't think the place could cope with more than a couple of dozen away fans. The away end is reminiscent of The Shay in the late 70s in its basic charm. In fact, the tannoy announcer was sat in the tiny stand behind the dugout with a small turntable on his knee. God knows what he does when its raining!
One of the London Tykes used to live in this area so we are meeting here which is supposed to be decent http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/34/3403/Birkbeck_Tavern/Leyton
I am so tempted. At the Reading-Bradford replay tomorrow and staying over. In a hire-car so travel not an issue. Do I hang around that south-east place all day Tuesday and head to the match?? Decisions, decisions etc....
As long as I can get out of work a bit early I will be there - not sure I can make a pre match pub though office > Basingstoke > woking > London Waterloo > Orient takes about 2 hours so I probably need to be leaving the office a bit before my official 5:30 finish time - shouldnt be a problem unless some panic crops up
Beat me to it! Seems people will be rolling up there from 4:30ish. I should get home from Watford for the second half. We should have wrapped up the three points by then...
