Favourite comedian?

Best I've seen so far was probably Rob Brydon, although Jimmy Carr was pretty funny on Friday night.

I've also got tickets to see Dylan Moran on Wednesday night too.

Who's the best you've seen live?

 

Ardal O'Hanlon was brill - seen him twice. Favourite is hard to choose - Vic and Bob, Lee Mack, Jasper Carrot, Peter Kay, Frank Skinner were all good for different reasons

 

Bob Monkhouse closely followed by Ken Dodd

 

I saw Peter Kay a couple of years ago in Glasgow, he was funny but he charged a fortune so on balance I didn't enjoy it as much as the others!

I thought John Bishop's DVDs were awful, but live he was very funny.

This is the best thing about Glasgow, their comedy festival in March!

 

All these new comedians are **** Bernard manning for me.

 

Charlie Chuck...going to see him in Sheffield in may...."Woof,bark,donkey.....you cakey Pig!"

 

Jimmy Carr was absolutely hilarious live but I went off him after the whole tax scandal.

Stewart Lee thought provoking and funny, I probably have a man crush on him.

Really enjoyed Emo Philips, Dylan Moran, Frankie Boyle and Milton Jones at various times.

 

I like Frank Skinner and Bob Mortimer too. Bernie Clifton is still very funny too; he does a show on radio pig that is very good.

 

There are obviously different comedians for different tastes, some can make you smile or laugh a little, but the best ones are them who give you a belly laugh that literally brings tears to your eyes. For me that was Tommy Cooper & Morecambe & Wise.

Spot on. Morecambe and Wise still make me laugh when their old shows are run on tele.

 

saw Stan Boardman at the bfc player of the year awards some years ago,he had everybody in stitches,proper rooerd wi laughing.They also had mick miller on one year aswell,he was funny too.

 

Stewart Lee probably.

Daniel Kitson was quality too.


Never seen these next few live, but enjoy them all for varying reasons:

Ricky Gervais, Lee Mack, Russell Brand, Peter Kay, Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey, Lee Evans, Sean Lock, Frankie Boyle, Tim Minchin.


Seen Ross Noble, enjoyed his show and also Dara O'Briain surprised me, very funny bloke. Saw Russell Howard, liked him on TV but his stand up show was tragically bad.




Not so keen on:

Michael McIntyre, Miranda Hart, that other woman (geordie lass), Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, Jason Manford.



When I was younger, I loved Les Dawson, Bob Monkhouse and Julian Clary. All funny in different ways.



And Chris Rock and Robin Williams from the US did some amazing shows back int day.

Awful, absolutely ******* awful.

 

Back when I used to go to a lot of comedy shows Frank Skinner was my favourite, although I always enjoyed watching Jeff Green and Ardal O'Hanlon. In fact, I saw Jeff Green again a couple of years ago at the Edinburgh Festival and he's still as good. I went to this charity gig in Islington in the 90's that had 10-12 top comedians, although my memory being what it is I can't remember exactly who was on the bill, but Eddie Izzard was there. Anyway, Jeff Green and Jo Brand did this thing where they did each other's set. Jo Brand didn't really pull it off, but Jeff Green was excellent doing Jo Brand's stuff. Although it turns out he used to write a lot of her material.

Harry Hill used to be good in the early days too. His sister used to share a flat with a mate of mine. I could tell you a funny story about that, but not on here!

But I was lucky enough to see Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie do a show in Sheffield before they went on to take over the world and they were great, so I'll go for them.

Certainly the most unusual one was Jerry Sadowitz at a pub, again in Islington. Molly, of this very parish, was on the bill and Sadowitz, who was at the time in one of the phases where he'd upset everybody and couldn't get any work, turned up and explained that he was banned from loads of places for his un-pc jokes, but he noticed that you could get away with saying anything if you did it "in character". So he put a pair of sunglasses on, said he was Chuck from New Jersey and did the most disgusting material you could imagine in a fake American accent. It was when the nail bomber was at large, so there was a bit about him that had most of the (typically chin stroking North London) audience gasping. It seemed like his intent was to go as far as it takes until everybody stopped laughing and started tutting. Problem was he was just so damn funny, so whilst everybody else in the pub were shaking their heads at each other and shuffling nervously in their seats, me and my mate were falling off our chairs laughing. Couldn't repeat any of the jokes though. Made Frankie Boyle look like wholesome family entertainment!
