I know it may be difficult with it being Easter Sunday, but here goes ... I just flew into London at the last minute on a business trip, and I'll shortly be jumping the train to Barnsley for tomorrow's game. Any ideas where I can take the family for a good Sunday lunch?
Apparently the Dodworth Valley Toby carvery is supposed to be decent, I've never been myself like or the Royal Oak pub on Denby dale road does some lovely home cooked grub
Yeah it's decent if you can actually get in. I turned up t'other Sunday and there was a waiting time of 45 minutes just for a table... Straight back out 'the door. Cue a screaming 2 year old thinking he's not getting any dinner, McDonalds it was that day... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Decent but up market places are the Spencer Arms, Cawthorne, Strafford Arms, Stainborough and Bells Steak House, Silkstone. The Station at Silkstone Common will serve a down to earth traditional village pub Sunday lunch, about £7 for a huge plateful. The Dodworth Valley is a glutton's paradise, in my opinion. I've never been since we nearly threw up while waiting in the queue watching people (most of whom appeared to have plenty of food in stock anyway) piling their plates, spilling a third of it down their neck-mounted napkins, eating a third and leaving a third on their plate to be wasted. We turned away and went somewhere else. My wife says it's just a machine for turning food into s**t.
I agree with the summary about the Dodworth Valley. I was in the Norman in Monk Bretton earlier this week and it was spot on.
This has moved to the top of my Sunday roast list from last Sun. Blackhouse Leeds, I go regular for steaks but last week was the first time on Sunday. http://blackhouse.uk.com/menu/sunday-roast
Best Sunday lunch I've had round here is the Wortley Arms. Not the cheapest, but the best by far. Unless they've changed their policy, Bells Steakhouse in Silkstone don't let kids in.
Really enjoyed our meals at the Green Dragon in Thurgoland & the Waggon and Horses in Oxspring. Excellently prepared food, generous portions and reasonable prices.
Aha! I wondered where it was. You must have been the large lady (I estimate about 22 stones) with a trail of gravy from just below your chin which was dribbling down your top, and on your plate was a pile of sprouts which looked like the pyramid of Ferrero Rocher chocolates in the ad. Have you only got 3 teeth?
