Fairly average pub grub really not been in years I don't live in Barnsley anymore but used to go there with mates for footie/food. Others on here might be able to provide more up to date recommendations.
I recommend the Kangaroo burger (pretty sure it's just beef though). Seriously though if food is the main purpose, I'd eat somewhere else and then find a pub with the footy on. Walkabout used to be the "go to" place for many and it did everything pretty well (food/beer/choice of sport on the many TVs) but it has been in decline for a few years now, the decor is looking very tired and it tends to be one of the first places to close on an evening.
Yeah the Kangaroo burgers used to be better when the filing was in strips. Since they changed it to a beef looking patty they are still alright but not as good. The decor definately needs upgrading and they never have enough staff on a saturday night so queueing 15-20 minutes around 7-9 o clock is the norm. After that the place goes dead and the good old days of the place being rammed until 3 am are long gone.
I don't know what's there snap is like, but they will have the Football on. Channels on Wellington Street.
Yes, if you want to eat where you drink and watch the footy, here is the place. Nice snap. Not sure what time ur wanting to eat though and not sure if they stop serving food at a certain time. Chennells is the place, and I'd give em a ring or bob in and ask.
Used to enjoy Wednesday nights in there back in the day when it was worth going out, would always tell ourselves we needed to leave about 11:30 so we'd not be completely out of it for work the next morning - needless to say the place was still rocking at that point and we'd end up leaving at about 1:30 and being in a right state for work. I used to do the one in Sheffield on Monday nights about 10 years ago and that was pretty good as well.
It was busy into the early hours until Escapade opened and took their business. Then Escapade went under and for whatever reason folks didn't go back to Walkabout. Definately much quieter these days not helped by not having a stand out nightclub because for whatever reason nobody can make a success of the Escapade/House building. It's a shame because it's the only night out venue with enough space for a large crowd.
To be honest, immediately before House closed it did actually get quite busy (think it was more that they owed money to creditors for the refurb), I liked the layout with the bar area and mezzanine before the nightclub bit - I do like dance music (or EDM as the kids now call it) but I found it a bit too commercialised in there, as if they were trying to cater for a lot of tastes but in doing that you are never going to give somewhere an identity or a reputation where people who like a particular style of music are going to be drawn to. Getting a bit old for nightclubs now but the best one I've been to lately is Tank in Sheffield - thankfully I wasn't the oldest in there but can't have been far off!
