Some difficult games in those 5, but it also included Colchester and Orient, both in the bottom four when we played them. There was a thread about efforts on target yesterday. We've managed just 8 in total in those 5 games. I didn't believe we'd make the play-offs, but that result today is very poor. Sounded like we fell apart after subbing Bailey.
Aye probably the gaping hole int centre of midfield again, but I think he went all out for the 3 points we needed today and it backfired. Creating a few chances a game is becoming the norm in our football.
I much preferred watching us in the first half of the season, before we sorted out the defensive side of our game. We were liable to take a hammering but we created plenty of chances too. Winnall getting injured did it. Wilson didn't trust any of the other forwards enough to attack the opposition so he went about containing them, which has carried on since Johnson arrived. It's not like the defensive approach has got us anywhere. We were 7 points off the play-offs when we sacked Wilson and we still are. Hope Johnson has a more positive approach next season. 22 efforts at goal and 8 on target when we beat Bradford, the same amount as we've managed on target in the last 5 games. 13 efforts at goal and 6 on target when we beat Gillingham. 13 efforts at goal and 4 on target when we drew at home to league leaders Bristol, doubling their tally in both departments. Even when we lost we had a go: 20 efforts at goal and 9 on target when losing to Crewe in the cup, 11 efforts at goal and 5 on target when MK Dons hammered us. Keeping it tight is fine when you're winning, the result is more important than the performance, but keeping it tight and losing doesn't half kill your spirits.
Agree...that's why set pieces are so important these days. With a 5 man mid-field you don't get overrun but you create next to **** all.. All them that want shut of our best dead ball man, Hourihane. take note cos without assists.. (never mind goals) we would have been fecked
We were playing Berry, Bailey and Winnall far more in those early season games where we showed more creativity. I would like to see them feature more but alas I think our defence his slipping back to old ways last 3-4 games
