    Is it still going? saw it as a young un once, but never played it. These things are our heritage and need to continue.

    Best player around Barnsley was Nipsy Beedan from Brampton
    Nipsy was made from snooker balls and stick from shunters poles

    when we were kids we played a version with a brick a small pointed piece of wood and (I think) a pick axe handle

    That's it. The small piece of wood woud balance on the brick and you would hit it down so it spun upwards. Then you would t**t it as hard as you could in mid air. Farthest, judged by a stride out, won.

    Remember it being played on Mellers Field, off Donny Road when I was a kid (late 50's).

    Used to attract some large crowds.

    Was still played on the field behind the priory pub at Cundy cross until the early 90's, I had a go as a nipper, Shame it died out

    I played nipsy as a kid, really enjoyed it but was never any good.

    Knurr & spell. Same principle. I remember them playing it down Broomhill (wombwell ) when i was a lad in the fifties. The main difference seemed to be that in nipsy they used a house brick set at a angle to stand the nipsey on.

    whats nipsey? i looked it up on google and it just came up as a rapper called nipsey hussle
