oooooooo errrrrrr misssusss pouty Frankie Howerd lips... the defeat by the guys " over t'road has taken a big hit innit'... I know its a vet English thang bro... but look upon it like a Highland game... or heres a better one.. when we were stationed at RAF Kinloss up on the Moray Firth we bought a cottage in Burghead... it dates back to pre history.. it was used by the Romans... but they can take well back to Pagan times.. they had a ceremony every tear for the mark of either the autumn or winter solstice... the burning of the CLAVIE it was like Upphellyar ( spelling) I remember one particular 'Clavie' when we got to the Harbour Inn ( we had not seen a Clavie night before... however I did know the history Lots of burley Scots men fishermen came in blackened and sweaty..... my wife ( a wonderful Welsh Valley girl, and I do not deserve her) said to Grant the pub owner... " is there a fire.. I can smell burning"... she actually opened the door to us both to become honory Scotts. WQe left there in 1997.. a career decision... but to this day many of the fishermen, and our old Postie Dan keep in touch
Re: oooooooo errrrrrr misssusss Hmm Had a couple tonight then Dragon? Interesting wee story mate but the Up Helly Aa bit is a Shetland thing. It's part of a Norse celebration to rid the winter and the long dark days and welcome in the better weather. This is when they burn a Viking Galley Boat in celebration. I've been to Shetland and witnessed the occasion a few times. It is always held on the last Tuesday in January. Well worth taking in if you ever get the chance. But can be bitterly cold at that time of year.
proper bloody hell Ian.. the defeat from your neighbours has obviously hit you bloody hard I was trying to help you a bit... obviously you need to go well to the back of your "Man Cave" and recover... I will keep well clear now from its entrance.. :nails:
Re: proper bloody hell Ian.. does it still end with them dipping their cox in the water? oooh err missus
So tell me, do we still play the game of Nipsey in Barnsley? I remember as a nipper going to watch that. I really hope it's still alive and kicking
Likewise though didn't have much to do with nor time for the rowing crowd. Wouldn't be heartbroken to see both sink to be honest.
