Flicker signed Jennings.... Nice to hear Berry did well when he came on though, always thought he was tenacious but just too lightweight and didn't know his best position. Turnbull is crocked.
His best position is centre mid and he was never played there, shoved out somewhere else to accomadate hourihane I personally think berry is an all round better footballer he has been unlucky.
My favourite player is Berry, not seen enough of him, and particularly in his best position. He's only a bairn though, he could be a big player for us next season. Did we give him a 3yr contract?
Berry is probably a better all round footballer than Hourihane. That is damning with faint praise. Hourihane is fine if the ball is static. Berry is fine a division or two lower than this one. We are thin on the ground quality wise.
Aaaaaaaaaaagh. We played 2 up top against Sheff Utd for the majority of the match. And against Leyton Orient away for a good 30minutes. Both times it hasn't worked because the midfield was overrun. Both times it was as poor as I've seen us play recently. When we went on our winning run we were playing 5 in midfield and one up top. If people are going to constantly make this argument you have to name a midfield that can work as a four. Something we haven't had all season bar a brief spell when Williams was here.
When Winnall went up front today we were much better. If you insist on playing one up front you choose your best forward,
This with bells on. No idea how Berry ended up further down the pecking order than Bailey. Hourihane needs a rest for me. Has he started every game this season? Get Berry back in the centre for Notts County. Berry and Scowen in centre mid could be a really good combination.
To make up for Hourihane's inadequacies in midfield. We can't play a straight 4 4 2 as he's too weak in the middle of a midfield 4. We need his set piece deliveries hence Sam has to play wide in a midfield 5. It's a problem we have to solve to move forward next season.
If you feel you are technically good enough to play it through midfield and not resort to the big boot. Are we good enough to do that at the moment? Even with 5 in there? I think the sight of the ball getting clogged up Sam to get beaten in the air by a monstrous centre half would be even more frustrating than seeing him on the wing.
I know, I just wondered if he should be on the list too because in my opinion he wins the deadwood player of the year in my opinion. Berry was excellent when he came on, I really rate him, I have all season, I just hope he gets a run in the side now.
People keep moaning about Winnall on the wing but it's worked several times where as Winnall up front with either Jabo or Waring hasn't worked once since Johnson took over so it's hard to blame Johnson for sticking with it
One that doesnt contain Hourihane. He's the source of most of our problems, he's nowhere near good enough to play in a 4 man midfield and we have to sacrifice either a striker or the wingers to accommodate him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ive never seen Winnall on the wing work. One of the top 3 strikers in the league, a penalty box striker, being played on the wing is ludicrous. To do it time and again after it has completely failed is criminal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It's my belief that we should be able to construct a midfield 4 that can successfully compete with Chesterfield's from the players we have got. It's the managers though job to make decisions about the personnel of that 4. I can't say I've ever really thought that Winnall the winger works or has worked. Two times where playing him centrally has worked were against Wallsall and yesterday in his cameo appearance. Playing ultra defence hoof ball may work against poor teams. Playing it against the better ones is suicidal and won't work.
Maybe we should be able to find a midfield capable of playing in a four from what we've got. But the fact that two managers in 42 games haven't been able to do it, despite both clearly wanting to play 2 up top if possible, suggests there's not an easy answer in the squad at the moment. For what it's worth I think Berry and Scowen in the centre would be the best bet if we wanted to do that at the moment. But we're woefully light on the wings. You'd have to go with Stewart and John who haven't exactly pulled up any trees.
We are very weak on the wings now JOS has gone back. If the Oldham fans are to be believed we are playing the system (if not the personnel) that LJ favours rather than having it foisted on him. Not sure if that's true or sour grapes though.
It worked well against Preston at home. I don't think it's a coincidence that as soon as we went 4-4-2 we started losing
Ok. Not Connor Hourihane. Then who? It's all well and good complaining that Sam isn't in his correct position - Lee Johnson isn't daft, he clearly wants to get Winnall up top, he's said it numerous times. But he doesn't think we've got a midfield capable of doing it. If you do, then you've at least got to say what that midfield is.
The only formation we can play to keep hourihane in the side is 352 or 532 and play with wing backs. I would consider dropping him for the rest of the season and try 442 but we don't have the wingers for 442 . the squad balance is not right. 433 and the 4141 we played yesterday also doesn't work and means winnall plays wide or drop the big lads up front. It's back to the squad it requires changing so we can be more flexible on how we play
