    No, it might mean that they don't earn enough to live, get to work and afford a mortgage for a house anywhere.

    Surely everybody in full time employment can if they prioritise? I understand unemployed people not being able to but everyone with a full time job should be able to shouldn't they?

    Just had a quick look and at the HSBC you can borrow 45k on minimum wage with a 5k deposit. Thats a £50,000 house paying just 200 quid a month for 30 years.

    I know some find it hard to save up 5,000 pound but is that because they choose to spend the money on other things?

    Real world is that on minimum wage full time job, if you have saved up 4000 pound you can go out and buy one of several 2 and 3 bed houses on the market in barnsley for 170 a month fixed for 5 years. It might not be the property that you dream of but it IS a home that the vast majority of people can afford if they choose to prioritise.

    feels a bit harsh to me, does that. so what's minimum wage these days? about £13k a year? i personally have no idea how people can buy a house and have any kind of existence, on that. technically they probably could, but it would probably also be based on spiralling debt they will never be able to pay back.

    how long do you think it would take though, for someone on minimum wage to save 4k? that's a lot of money, to a lot of people
