On Digby now he had seen him..

 

What was he like?

 

Not good I'm afraid. Going backwards constantly, and did more pointing that passing.

 

Same as usual. Neat and tidy on the whole with his passing, lacking the required athleticism. If he could run, he'd be a player. He can't so it's touch and go. Seen players with far less quality have a good career in professional football, but they've got an energy that just eludes him.

Don't draw any conclusions from his substitution. It was obviously planned, what with him being out so long and coming back from injury. Wish the planned substitution had been to bring on another striker though.

 

How he plays for any age group with England is beyond me

Remember him in that pre season game against one of those European sides who sat off him? Couple of years ago now. He looked like Carrick or summat. This year he's looked more Miles Addison without tenacity.

 

I just hope he fails. Would make so many people on here happy.

 

I think the problem with Digby is that he hasn't had a consistent run of games and is injury prone. Desperately needs games under his belt

All these managers aren't overlooking him for nowt.
He's not even good back up. Get rid n get somebody decent in.
Pearson,Scowen,Bailey have a bad game n it doesn't matter cos there's nobody challenging for there shirt

I think its worth holding on and trying him on a loan out for the season. Last throw of the dice. Seems like he could mature into a good player but he struggles when pressed. He gave up possession at the edge of our area a couple of times and is lacking in mobility. I don't think we will play Bree, Holgate, Smith, Cowgill, Oats, Abbott, Digby in the same starting line up next season so like Reuben and Rose, we might have to let some of this group move on to develop their careers.

 

The problem with Digby is the exact same problem Noble-Lazarus, Rose & Clark had from the same crop of youngsters.

We kept getting told they'd get chances in the first team but they never did & all 4 should've been out on loan 3 seasons ago gaining experience like Oates, Maris & Abbott have had this season.

All 4 have ended up wasting 2 years of their careers & on the rare occasions they make appearances they understandably looked really rusty.

If Digby's not one of Johnson's 4 main central midfielders next season then he should be out on loan for a few months to see if he can handle regular football & to see if his performances will get gradually better or not.

I think he's been the victim of bad management & bad luck with injuries, we should all know whether he's up to it or not by now but none of us have a clue because he's barely played

 

I'd agree with this.

He's got something but as pointed out above, seems to lack the athleticism to cut it. I'm not sure whether that will come with an extended run of games but injuries get in the way of that.

The ball he played over the top for Hourihane yesterday was sublime, put right in the area for Alnwick to have to make a decision yet not too far so that it was comfortable for the keeper.

But for the other 59 minutes he did little of note other than pass backwards. Such a shame, he seems to be going down the same road as Reuben and Rose rather than Stones and Butterfield.

 

Similar performance to how Pearson plays for us. A guy taking orders off a manager who will be the one to tell him to do simple short passes, square balls and sidewards passes. Then when the guy isn't attacking enough he's "not good enough" when if he did and it went wrong he'd have the manager on his case for not following team orders. Digby's performance was nothing special but it wasn't rubbish either. I'd have kept him on the pitch.

 

Think thas just hit nail ont head and put a reason to the difference between Pearson now and when he first came, we are making him negative to fit in with a negative approach. Too many of these backward sideways players in modern football and they bore the **** out of me.

60 % of possession and going nowhere, gets you nowhere.

The game is slowly being strangled of any entertainment value whatsoever.

 

Bit like Man Utd yesterday

 

Trouble is todays football watching, owning society doesn't like anything but instant success. We have seen our fans slate Cowgill for one mistake and on his back after 10 mins. Most supported and backed him though. We even had players slagged off before a game starts and even before they kick a ball for our club.

I think players who have had several starts like Digby need to make the positive impact early to keep themselves in the team and get that run of games. Holgate, Stones, Bree, Smith have all done that. Reuben in the past and now Digby have flattered to deceive. Would i persevere with Digby in our club yes, but i would loan him out for a lengthy spell to see how he gets on say in L2.
