Anybody fancy giving me a summary of today's game?

I've listened to Matt and Adam describe what sounded a very dull game and both were very critical of LJ, wondering why we were so negative and at times unwilling to even shoot.

Be nice to get other reports.

    Cheers.

Pretty even game.We huffed and puffed but didn't look like blowing the house down. Both teams worked hard but not enough quality on the pitch for me.Digby had a good game,Cowgall looked a bit nervous, was at fault for the goal but overall had a decent debut looking very strong in the air.My man of the match Scowen.

    In a word w@nk.

The game was like a friendly with very little pace or effort from Barnsley.

Johnson inexplicably played 451 with only one winger though for the majority of the game it was 460 with Winnall on the other wing. He spent more time out wide than he did in the box but Johnson forgot about the minor detail that if a striker is doing that you need another on the pitch to take his place in the middle.

Digby was awful again. Gets the ball and the first thing he does is turns towards our goal and kicks it at a defender or keeper. No strength in his tackle either.

Cowgill played well in parts but made a balls up for their goal and from then on it all seemed to go wrong for him with mistake after mistake. It was clear his confidence had gone. Hopefully the manager will have a word and explain it happens to everyone and he'll get over it quicky

Holgate was piss poor. Every pass he made either went out of play or to their players.

Hourihane was his usual non entity. Had a glorious chance to shoot on the edge of the box but instead passed out wide. Rarely joined attacks and rarely defended. Made his first tackle of the season and it was a good one too, got the ball and a yellow card too for some reason.

Only berry nyatanga and scowen came out of the game with any kind of positives to be honest. If today was how Johnson wants us to play next season then god help us because it was the dullest game of football I've seen for a long time and that wasn't just because of the age of the players, it was Johnsons formations and tactics which were beyond negative. At one point they had a free kick in their own half and Johnson called all our players back to defend it.

    Today was just experimental

Before kick off our position was such that we could not go up and also could not be relegated. I cannot blame the manager and his staff for giving youngsters/fringe players a go. I hope he does so in the last two games too. The Youngsters will gain more for it.

They will but what is the point in doing that using a formation that doesn't suit any of them and will simply not work?

    First half, boring.. boring.. boring...

Second half, much better on account that I'd left to make the most of my weekend. Picked up some beers on the way home, got sat in the sun and then heard on radio Dee Dar that we'd scored a last minute equaliser. Oh! And Sheff Weds and Leeds lost.

The Player lads didn't criticise any players. But were very critical of LJ's tactics, system, shape etc, and were at a loss to explain why we weren't going all out to entertain etc in a meaningless game.

Very dull game, many players looked nervous, tired, unfit, unwilling or something. I cant quite put my finger on it, but only Berry seemed to actually want to play. Not saying that because he scored btw, because that goal could have been scored by anyone, about 5 players were all near it when it was headed in, including Davies.

Cowgill and Digby simply were not good enough, and LJ did well by bringing them off. I can understand Cowgill being nervous, so I'll excuse him slightly, but I'd say that's probably the last we see of Digby. Hopefully LJ wont put up with him anymore, he hardly passed the ball forwards, and he mainly went for the 'easy' ball back to the defence, and he still gave the mall away multiple times!

Hourihane was his usual self, great deliverys from the dead ball, but didnt do much else, and the open goal he missed was shocking! Conor needs to find his shooting boots again, many times a game he gets into good positions to unleash a shot, and he passes sideways and the attack peters out.

Winnall cannot play up front on his own. He has no service whatsoever, and they tried punting the ball up to him on multiple occasions, and he just couldnt do anything with it.

We have to remember, the average age of the starting 11 today was 21. It was a nothing game, and we got a draw out of it with essentially the reserve team. We didnt deserve a draw IMO, but credit to them for getting it. Post could have had 4 or 5 today in honesty, Davies did well on a couple of occasions to pull some saves off.

As a last point, i thought the referee had a decent game, a little to rash with his cards, perhaps, but a decent game overall.

Just imagine a pre season friendly but without the new season optimism.

Decent football, no cutting edge, no one willing to shoot. One mistake led to their goal, a mistake at the other end resulted in Hourihane firing wide when the goal was empty. A Corner saved us in the last minute. Dread to think where we'd be in the league without Hourihane's set pieces.

Poor substitution bringing Pearson on for Digby. It should have been Oates. To see us play with just 1 up front against a team already on the beach and down to ten men was a bit concerning.

I like Johnson, but if that's the plan for next season it's going to be boring.

Berry, Scowen and Nyatanga were all excellent.

Cheers, glad Berry's had a few chances again lately, sounded on commentary like our best player. I was a bit surprised that Pearson was even in the squad. Doesn't look good for Bailey does it? I'm starting to think we're signing this Pearson in some form, otherwise why involve him? Same perhaps goes for John.

    Appreciate the replies.

Winnall up top on his own, set the tone of the game really.

First half, lumped it forward looking for Winnall and not really finding him. Airshot from Cowgill resulted in the first goal, the lad looked very nervous first half but did much better in the 2nd. Poor first half, and on balance, Peterborough deserved their lead. Lots of running from Scowen, Lalkovic and Berry without much end product. Hourihane missed an open net albeit from a tight angle. Ben Alnwick looked as dodgy as ever.

2nd half, we got the ball down more and moved it about better. Brought Pearson on for Digby which aided us to go forward more. Lots of possession but again with little end product. Winnall ghosted in far post to head wide and Holgate had the chance to score when the ball came straight across goal but he was unable to connect. Hourihane hit one just over early in the 2nd and we began to create chances after a good 50 minutes with very few. Soft 2nd yellow for the red card, but the referee gave us very little otherwise. I left the game with 5 to go, thinking we won't score if we play all night.

Nyatanga my man of the match, missed who actually got it.

Draw a fair result considering they were best first half and we were the 2nd.

    Heard that Bailey is injured.

Nyatanga really stepped up today. He was the oldest player in our team and expected to set an example. He did that and then some. Well worthy of praise.

I also thought Smith had a good game until he came off. Seems more confident and assured on the ball. Hope he keeps improving. Scowen was MOTM for me.

i thought Nyatanga looked nervous towards the start of the game, but he improved as it went on.

    Opinions, eh.
