Just been watching Match of The Day. Three defenders made the exact same mistake as Cowgill and ended up awarding the opposition a goal. These premiership defenders have all played the whole season and plenty of other seasons before this. Yet some Barnsley fans think it okay to say how bad Cowgill is even though it's his first ever football league game and he's only 18. You make me laugh.
His first big mistake cost us a goal and he made an even bigger mistake a few minutes later than thankfully Posh didn't score from. But after that the nerves gradually went and he ended up being quite solid. Won a fair few headers. Nerves are natural despite it being a "nothing game". I now hope he starts against Bradford as well. That's not knocking Cowgill for his two big mistakes, it's an honest assessment of a player who's going to play a big role for us next season and will one day hopefully be a big saleable asset for us.
His mum looked hart broken when he fu'cked up she stood up for a couple of minutes as though she wanted to jump out of fanny corner run over and give him a cuddle.
A couple of people behind me 'know' he's not good enough and wanted him taking off after about 20 minutes. So that's 4 Yours in sport Mr P. Dant
Pretty fair assessment, I'd do the same. I think Nytanga should have put an arm around him after the goal, telling him to keep his chin up. The only player to go towards him and say something was Holgate. Piss poor response from his team mates imho.
I could sense the crowd for once with patience with a lad. Lj commented on it and I think it will do the lad good. However the same can't be said for Digby. I could feel quite a few waiting to pounce on him. Young lads. In fact most footballers need encouragement and a crowd behind them. Not berating if a pass goes a bit wayward
There was some pillock in the Eaststand Lower slagging him off. Christ, how many mistakes has the £50 million pound player David Luiz made? Cowgill is only 18, and hopefully will gain confidence and improve. Overall I thought our young defenders did OK. Also good to see Bree back in a Reds shirt. It would be fantastic in a couple of years time if our back 4 was, Bree, Holgate, Cowgill, Smith. I remember when 3 of our back 4 were 'homegrown', Joyce. McCarthy, Chambers. Must say I was also impressed by Peterborough's young 19 year old defender, 22 Santos
My take was that folk genuinely felt for him, and the applause as we were kicking off as toshow how backing plus the applause whenever he won a header
It's hard for Cowgill that because of his physique it means he can't get blooded in as a full back like a lot of centre backs do. Centre back's the most unforgiving position in a team if you make a mistake. I remember Luke Potter had one of the worst debuts going, (7-0 at West Brom I believe) but he ended up having a run of games before his bad injury where he looked capable of been a decent squad player for us so Cowgill shouldn't be down about it all
Nyatanga definitely did as they walked back, because I saw him rub the back of his neck and speak, so I turned to mi brother and said did you see Nayatanga thank him for his contract extension then ?
He isn't good enough, that's a fact. He was poor at Walsall and poor on Saturday. Just because hes young and he's not good enough doesn't mean we should be playing him........but it also means we shouldn't boo him. Were I was sat, everyone got behind him after that dreadful mistake even followed by another mistake
