One of the favourites for Tranmere job at 4/1. Do you guys think he would do a good job there? Darren Ferguson, Dennis Wise and Robbie Fowler also in the running at 6/1.

Yes I think he'd do a great job for them because I still think he's a good manager. I hope he get's it.

Dannys level is league 2. He'd do very well plucking conference players capable of stepping straight into that division.

Just out of interest - how did you come to that opinion?

The likes of Berry, George Williams, Hemmings, Phenix could all have been snapped up by league 2 clubs. Those players have the potential to make an immediate impact at that level.

I'm sure Danny knows of other gems down there that would be capable of stepping straight into League 2 at little cost.

On top of that our best signings in Hourihane, Winnall and Scowen have come from League 2 so he obviously knows that division very well. O'Sullivan and Ryan Williams were also 2 players he spotted in League 2.

It's the signings he's made from further up the ladder where his judgement hasn't been as good. Lita, Treacy, Shea, Frimpong, Proschwitz and to some extent Bailey.

That was actually a much better answer than I was expecting. Still not sure I agree though. Danny was given the task of building a competitive league 1 squad on a budget. He left us with exactly that. He made mistakes, but if you sign 25 players you are going to get a couple wrong. Some of the players he signed came out of non league/league 2, but that was because he couldn't afford to sign a squad of established players. If anything it is huge credit to to him that there are so many success stories from his signings, especially the ones from lower down the football ladder.

I don't see any reason why Danny can't do this at another league 1 club, who will hopefully give him enough time to succeed or fail.

In my opinion Danny has had his day in League 1 now. I'm just not sure he'll get his chance again. His methods and overall approach is a little old school and there's young bright managers out there who are more in touch with the modern game. Both in terms of dealing with modern day footballers and the sports science side of the game.

Its no coincidence that the top half of League 1 is made up of teams with managers 50 or under. League 2 is similar but in that division I feel Dannys eye for a lower league player would make up for his shortcomings elsewhere.

I think you're right about him being slightly out of touch with modern footballers as the game and the young players have changed so much in that last few years. I still think with a good assistant he would do a great job for someone in league 1.
