Cats serve no useful purpose in life. We don't have guide cats for the blind, police cats, sniffer cats, etc etc however they do keep me fit. One keeps slipping under my back gate and shitting in my garden, leaves hair on the underside of the gate so a nice layer of grease for the cat to take home will be the order of the day.
I agree. I have never wanted any pet and especially not something like a dog. The cost, effort, early morning late night barking, peeing where it shouldn't, leaving hairs everywhere, chewing what it shouldn't etc. Other peoples dogs though are brilliant. I've liked plenty of dogs over the years that my mates or family have owned. You get the good stuff like taking it for a walk, throwing it a ball, stroking/patting it but without any of the bad things I mentioned.
Very funny post. Personally never got on with cats, don't trust em! If you died locked in a room with a cat and a dog, the dog would wait there with you until it starved to death, the cat would eat you. Cat lovers say that's because they are more intelligent. I'd rather have a stupid loyal dog.
Really enjoyed the essay Jay. And don't forget this one too..... you'll never be able to go on holiday again, with either a cat or a dog. Bang goes the fortnight in Tenerife. UNLESS you are prepared to pay just as much for your beloved pooch to spend his two weeks in kennels... £20 a night in a pissy, smelly concentration camp, and then there's the dog to think of. I love my doggies, they are my world, but they do restrict you unless you are totally devoted.
Aye, the cat that comes and pisses and shits in our garden its owner wont have seen it do these things either, or killing the birds for no other reason than that they are there.
I've had 2 dogs for a total of 32 years, and been on loads of holidays in that time. I've taken dogs on beach holidays, skiing, walking (obviously hee hee), city breaks, pub weekenders, in England, Scotland, Wales, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, even Liechtenstein. Can't see the point in having a dog then leaving it in kennels when you want to enjoy yourself.
Yes, we've always had to think like that too. Trouble is they are both 13 and a half now, so we have to plan ahead as to where we can all go. A couple of years ago we went to stay in one of those little wooden houses at Hemsby in Norfolk, one that survived the tidal surge a few weeks later, and the floor was lino. Poor doggies, slipping all over the place, old bones suffering. How were we to know? Now we even have to think about taking old carpet with us !! Who'd have Tenerife?
Got enough time to write the longest ever f.cking post in BBS history though. Obviously not walking him enough.
I love other people's dogs but I'd never dream of owning one. I've had a cat...and I'd probably have another one if I'm honest, my experience with them is exactly the same as yours Jay - they're affectionate enough for you to know that they appreciate you, but like humans they appear to have their own life as well. In fact, the cat I had when I lived at home (got her when I was about 15) is unbelievably still alive and well, I don't see much of her now but if I go to my mothers and the cats bowls aren't where they normally are I get a feeling in my stomach thinking that she's probably died but it always turns out they are just being washed or have been moved outside as despite being almost 20 she still doesn't come in the house for days when the weather is decent and flies all over the place in the same manner as she did ten years ago - one minute on the floor, the next she's jumped on top of the kitchen units. I can go months and months without seeing her but when I do she fuses over me like a close family member who hasn't seen me in years.
