Brand is a bit of an arse, but I like him. And I agree with most of the opinions and topics he airs on the Trews. The fact he shagged Katy Perry should be summat to credit him for, not slate him. Lucky basterd. And he beat drug addiction. He's a rags to riches story, fair play to him. He's also a very clever bloke.
I think Russell Brand is a good comedian and he's easy to like but I don't think has much credibility as a political commentator/campaigner. Admittedly, I haven't followed his recent interviews etc. but I lost a great deal of respect for him when he encouraged folk to express their dissatisfaction with the status quo by not voting. A lot is said about how it's difficult to relate to politicians as they are class amongst themselves, Eton educated/in the Westminster bubble etc etc etc. And we're told that Brand truly represents the people. However, I'd argue that I probably have more in common with your average MP than I do with someone who's life has been characterised by drug and sex addiction, went to art school, has never had a 'proper' job and who now lives a Hollywood life with the riches that come with it. Perhaps I should add 'unfortunately' to that last sentence.....
Agree with most of that except that you think he's a good comedian; I think that the best comedians are the ones that make you laugh with the dry sense of humour that we Brits are famous for, I don't think that the more expletives you put in a sentence makes it funny as Brand seems to think so. Monty Python, Tommy Cooper, the two Ronnies, now that's humour without being the gutter humour that Brand portrays. Trash.
'Unearthly silence'?? Going out on a limb here, but could that be because nobody sane really gives a flying one about it?? I'm indifferent about Brand's effectiveness as a comedian, but his politics come largely from the right place. Addressing inequality, championing society's less well off, giving the banks a good shoeing etc. Why on earth would Labour voters be 'embarrassed' by their meeting? I've been a party member all my voting life and I honestly couldn't give a toss. If it engages even a handful of Brand's 'followers' to get out next week and use their vote, for whichever party*, then I think it's a job well done. * apart from those greedy Tory ****s. In my opinion, there are far better stand up comedians. But I think he's witty and when his best stuff seems to come when he's improvising. But his purpose as far as I'm concerned is to make people laugh, I think he's out of his depth in politics. I'm not one who's easily put off by bad language so that's never really bothered me. There are comedians who I rate far higher who probably pip him on the expletive count as well.
Blind allegence then, can't think out of the box, only accept what is fed, too much of that going about and not enough thought in this election. Father to son politics. But times have changed, the world is different now.....hello this is the 21st century. We can't be stuck in 70's politics and mind set. Truth be told and I'm sure you well know, it was toxic to even be in the same room as Brand and pretty sure that Miliband regrets it now. Let's get real here. Pretty logical and obvious to most I would think. And btw if it was Cameron I would have said the same.
Is Brand even known for expletives in his stand up? Not IMO, the odd swear word, but no more than most comedians these days. His vocabulary is fairly advanced tbh. I like him as a comedian, seems a decent bloke to me too.
Do you think so? All Russell Brand talks about is politics. All the time. Literally, all the ******* time. Unless I'm confusing him with someone else. The long haired guy with the stubble, bit of a nob, but actually talks a lot of sense?

Is that directed towards me? Father to son?? I bloody wish! My parents are both dyed-in-the-wool Tories, who get their opinions from the Daily Mail. I loathe them both for that, but love them dearly, obviously. There's no "truth" whatsoever in any of your posts on this, just the kind of kneejerk reaction that the aforementioned rag would love everyone to take as fact. Why and how do you see it as 'toxic'?? I doubt Milliband has any great thoughts on the experience - just another day on the campaign trail for him. On the complete contrary, your reworking of a simple 'celeb-meets-politician' endorsement (and I'm not even sure anyone sees it as an endorsement, apart from the right-wing press) into something more sinister is completely illogical and obvious to no-one, to paraphrase you.
That's the fella. But the point being that many of them 10 million will follow him for being Russell Brand. The bloke who f.cked Katy Perry & anything that moved, upset Manuel & was pretty funny for a while before he did the previously mentioned two things which makes me both hate and envy him (just the shagging, I don't want to upset Manuel). His first interview with Paxman got millions of hits & posts online. They'll have been from people who followed him and saw it because they liked him as much as those who found they liked his politics. I've no idea what the previous two posts actually mean I've started rambling and I'm a bit pissed. The only man I've seen with worse hair than you, mind.
