Ive worked where I do for 10 years, and would be entitled to about 12 ish with what I spend on running house it would last 8/10 months with a bit of spending money too, but I think I'd do my HGV 2 & 1 with it and try and stick some away, I've always got over a months worth of bill money in saving at all times anyway incase I or wife have a injury or illness and have to miss work for any length of time. So starting out at a new place I'd try to at least double that incase I'm laid off or struggle for work, then I've a couple of month to get something

Put £10,000 into Sound Oil shares with a 15 per cent stop loss on it.

Gamble it obviously. Not addicted though.

Honestly though I'd use it as income until I'd sorted another job (then gamble any surplus).

How? On what figures. I've 8 yrs service in, we had a restructure recently, I put in an interest of VR just to see the figures, was about 4k. Woman I share an office with has 20 odd yrs service, her redundo figure is about 15k.

Are yours official figures or have you worked it out yersen (incorrectly maybe?)?

Is yours statutory redundancy? They could have a more generous scheme. I know in my last job I'd have been due about £10k from six years' service, if the *******s hadn't conned me out of it (kind of).

Yes, statutory. The examples above must have very generous employers to reach those figures (c.3x the stat minimum).

if its voluntary redundancy under compusary terms.

then there is also a compensatory add on. I got 24k for doing just 8 years with the MoD. They also gave an added 6years pension rights added to my 8 years served. I am now receiving RAF and Mod pension based on 36 years service. Instead of just 30 :)

I might be a bit stupid dragon but how do you get 30 from 8? Did you work for the MOD more than once or two different departments or something?

Company I work for made one of the departments redundant about four years back bloke who had been there 9 and half years got £12,600, thats all I know so just basing it on that, and just surmising I'd get around the same as he did

Like I said above mate, generous employer, they don't have to pay owt like that level.

No guarantee that they'll always pay out that high though. Unfortunately.

Thinking about it you're probably right because they made them redundant due to moving the department rather the closing it down completely it moved to Wales, so they may have paid extra because they could with it not being a forced closure due to financial troubles
