Agree with this ^^^ Maris is a year and half younger than Oates, having just turned 19, I'm guessing this played a part when comparing the two, hes got more time to develop and so more chance of making it. That said based on those 25mins alone I'd have kept Oates, but we don't know what hes like the rest of the time in training and we don't know the quality of strikers LJ is looking at. I'm gutted for the kid, but I trust LJ's opinion far more than my own!
The decision to release him was made prior to the game on Sunday and he played because we didn't have any other strikers.
People also seem to be forgetting that we were playing against 10 men and a team that had Tom ******* Kennedy in it. LJ has seen far more of him than I have - it's sad & I wish him nothing but good luck but I have next to no evidence that it's the wrong decision. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dunt care what they do in training, it counts for nowt. You judge the worth of a player by what he does in the games.
He's 20 now and that should be enough time for him to have broken into the team earlier in the season but he didnt. I hope he finds a club in L2 or conference and bangs them in. Goodluck Rhys.
Pretty sure he's been playing regularly in the reserves. He's obviously not judging him based on his 31 minutes for the first team. If that was the case, he'd be releasing Nana without even seeing him play.
Re: or....and I realise this is a bit far fetched Behave thissen! Contributors on internet forums ALWAYS know best! Hang your head in shame for making such an outlandish suggestion, sir!
Re: or....and I realise this is a bit far fetched So you're basically calling Jay a lovely person. Nice, really thought you were above such things.
Re: or....and I realise this is a bit far fetched I'm twirling my waxed moustache as I type. Later on, I'm going to tie a maiden to a railway line.
Disappointed we've not given him more of a chance. Has impressed me every time I've seen him, including reserve games (certainly outshone hemmings in the sheff wed game). However we just can't know all the factors that have gone into the decision, so guess we've got to trust LJs judgment.
Did Barnsley's scouts invite you to the club to train? Were you offered a scholarship in the academy? Did our last manager select you in the first team? When the academy coaches, who had monitored your development for years, were put in temporary charge, did they give you game time in every one of those games? When finally given a chance by the current manager, did you help us to a 5-0 victory? If so, I agree with you, you should get another contract to try to prove yourself.
