What can we do to protect and grow our town? I'm damned if I'm going to do some scouser-type bairning about the result, we need some ideas. And fast. Let's channel that Northern defiance into something constructive.
The only way to get this town back to where it should be is to stop blaming everyone for our problems. People also need to not be content with living off benefits, going to the job center every week and picking up their peanuts. I strongly believe that anyone is able to gain any one of a huge number of skills, if they put their mind to it. People should get proper qualifications and aspire for jobs that can build new industries for this town. I very much believe that the Tories are the best party to deliver the possibility of this, while Labour will just go on banging their head against the wall.
Pray tell why you think the Tories re the best to deliver those things? Education s being privatised. It won't be long until access is charged. The NHS is being privatised and access will become chargeable. How do people gain these skills when there is no funding for adult education and there is no funding for people say wanting to set up businesses in our areas?
Labour's pandering to those on benefits or very low wage makes people complacent in their jobs, and have no desire to better themselves. Sometimes that's needed (as bad as I know it sounds) in order to progress. It's also why (for the first time in my life) I voted for the Tories. The student loan system in this country is very good, and it allows so many people the ability to gain higher education qualifications, I just wish more people would.
This country needs new industries. Technology (computing, online retailers, Mobile Apps etc) are the way forward. ASOS are doing a good job of it in Barnsley, and it provides credibility for the town for other businesses. We NEED to capitalise on it, and start actively finding startup technology based companies and providing reasons for them to be in this town.
You lost me at 'I voted for the Tories'. How anyone with even a shred of moral decency about them could back the party of self, greed and hate is a f'kin mystery.
Agree. You won't get companies doing that without assistance..more now than ever the market is going to be "trusted" to deliver when it is this policy that has led us to austerity...
I honestly believe that Labour in Barnsley will never go out and find companies and provide assistance to come to the town. My comment about the Tories being better for this was more on a local level than a national level. (more of a "the current system isn't working on a local level") Doesn't make a difference, like. Tories will never get in Barnsley.
The Tories will never be the best party for this town....ever. I'll never forget how they destroyed it back in the 80s and 90s. I'll never vote Tory as long as I live. Never forgive, never forget.
I'm both highly qualified and very well paid. I attribute absolutely none of this to the Tory party. You would perhaps do well to improve your own education by reading a little bit of social history.
That's democracy for you........my way's best.......no my ways best....feel sorry for you for not believing in what I do!
Yes it is. I work in Adult Education. 2014 our funding was cut by £250,000. This year the same. Next year we expect it to be worse.
"The student loan system in this country is very good, and it allows so many people the ability to gain higher education qualifications, I just wish more people would." I work in a British University and I have seen the 9K fees destroy our university system over the last 5 years, its turned students in to customers. So we give them what they want, not what they need. Plus there is rampant inflation to give more high class degrees to maintain your position in the league table. Student satisfaction league table have resulted in us employing entertainers, rather than people who know stuff. Students are qualifying with subject that don’t relate to what the country needs. I could go on. I for one have spent the day looking for jobs outside the UK.
