Lost by a country mile....the people have spoken. Fact.

    Cameron it is then.

Never mind tho Houghton and co will blunder on merrily at Bmbc and Dan Jarvis will be ok til he jumps ship for a better job.

Alan Johnson has ruled himself out so I'd say that leaves Dan Jarvis as the next best man for the job.

If I were a betting man I would say Dan Jarvis is the obvious choice. What Labour really don't need now is another leader who is tainted by association with the mess left by the last Labour government. They need a clean break and to re-find the centre ground with someone who the public form a new opinion about rather than someone who they already have a bad opinion about. Thats if they have any desire to be electable again any time in the next decade.

so obviously, they will **** it up and give the job to Andy Burnham.

Quite possibly, the best thing that could have happened for Labour this week is Ed Balls losing his seat because he would have definitely stood for leader if he was still an MP and he would have guaranteed that 5 more years on the opposition benches became 10 more years. Labour will look back and come to realise that they dodged a bullet there.

The country lost by a country mile 35 million people didn't vote Tory, but 11 million did so we all have to suffer.

When are we going to get a system of representative democracy where the majority of people have a voice? Where politicians can be held to account throughout the term of election? Where politicians must stand by they political election promises? Where a strict code of ethics governs the behaviour and conduct of politicians at a higher (not lower) standard than the general public? Where outside business interests are prohibited while in office? Where drinking on the job is not allowed? Where the make up of parliament represents the economic circumstances of the country (instead of millionaires, being paid multiple times the average wage, plus expenses, and then moaning about it)?

If Labour had won, it wouldn't have made any of those circumstance any better. BTW.

    Best post I've read.

Until we change the way we appoint our rulers the vast majority of people will be governed by someone they didn't vote for.

Yvette Cooper would be the best bet, a strong lady who doesn't cow tail to the far left and seems to have a mind of her own, will also appeal to the female vote. I see tho that she prefers not to use her married name, but who wouldn't? Mrs. Balls....oh and Ed would be in heaven as he always wanted to live at number 10, just about the only way he could tho

Lots of things could make the govt of our country more palatable as some of your points highlight but also the media needs to be looked at they have prejudiced our views on certain political candidates for no other reason than eating bacon sandwiches or regional accents among many other snipes
.this has got to stop as we are losing too many good people from all political stances because of bigoted slurs.
Political views and respect for others are more important than the region where you were brought up,the way you eat or how posh you are.imo

You're right, they didn't, Labour only got 30.4% of the vote. They didn't want the Tories to win either, who only got 36.8% of the vote, but they've claimed victory anyway.

Labour had the wrong leader, Ed,s brother David was the man but the unions wanted Ed. A nice bloke and got better as he went along but not a No 1.
Looking at the contenders there is not one of them I would put as a leader. If they do not get it right they are in the wilderness til god knows when.
Remember when they put Michael Foot in, a brilliant brain but not one to lead you over the hill. Follow me lads, and he could hardly stand up.
Get on the telephone Ed and get your David a flight back , if not your going to be out of power next time as well.
The British people can get ready this next 5 years, now Mr Osborne has been given the green light to assassinate us. One thing of interest, as soon as the Tories were going to win the FTSE market went bonkers with money pouring in . Shows who controls wealth in good old England.
Labour controls the work force and the Tories all the money, nothing changed for years

Labour need someone who's as good as David Cameron is for trying to get as many groups as possible onside. No MP can make everyone happy and plenty of groups such as uni students hate him.

I never thought Ed was much of a leader either. Like you say, nice bloke, but not the job for him. However, as we got closer to the election I thought he really stepped up to the plate and by the end I thought he was a very good leader. Clearly not enough other people did, but I do think we would have had a very good Prime Minister had he won. Not to be...

Cameron looks the part and for a Tory he's not that bad I suppose, there's been much worse, I think there is a heart beating in his chest unlike with some, but I reckon Ed is far more determined and has a lot more inner strength.

The stock market rises and falls based on one simple fact - confidence. It was lack of confidence in Labour's ability to manage the economy that meant that the Tories won in the first place. The stock market was just reflecting the general view of the electorate.

And there's the problem in a nutshell. What does the stock market think. Confidence is rattled, let's increase that confidence by introducing policies that underwrite the risk for investors. Transferring more and more money from the many to the few. Labour and Conservatives both the same, creating an ever increasing unequal society.

A heart beating in Cameron's chest? He's like a robot. And as for Osborne, Jesus I bet his heart is knackered with all the crack he snorts.
