Apparently, by law, you have to do it every 10 years. It'll cost me £17 if I take it to the post office or £14 if I renew it on-line. So I'm going to do it on-line. Using that method they'll use the photo I have on my passport. The photo on my passport is the exact same photo as the one on my current driving licence. So, it's going to cost me £14 to get an new driving licence exactly the same as my old one, but it's the law that I've got to do it. ******* idiots.
Good job we don't have to retake the test cos a lot would fail, me maybe included, lol even more so with the theory test as well.
What type of licence is it, paper or photo. Paper driving licences issued before the photocard was introduced in 1998 will remain valid
For those who may be confused, this only applies to a photo driving licence but not the old paper licence. I only hold the latter and don't intend to change until I have to.
Read is post and hazard a guess, the clues in the word photo, and using the same photo as his last one
Unfortunately, I moved house, and had to update the details on my driving licence and was then issued with a photo driving licence. I agree with what tosh says, if you only have the old paper licence, don't change it unless you have to.
You're lucky. When I first got a license they were only valid for three years, and now I'm in my 70s it's back to square one (so to speak).
Just done a bit of digging and it turns out the system for penalty points is changing on 8th June this year. It will now only be recorded online, and you can check your points online with your Driving Licence & NI numbers.
last 3 times i've updated my address online using my passport number and they've used an older photo from about 2000 even though i'd renewed the passport since. sure it was free too, just pretend to flit to a close relative then flit back!
You do know the DVLA are also making plans to abolish paper licenses and also the paper part that comes with the photo card
Yes, but they say pre-1998 paper licences are staying the same: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes
I'm surprised that that hasn't come in, would be an undoubted money spinner for someone. Everytime I read about someone driving the wrong way down the motorway or killing someone by driving on a pavement I think it might be a good idea.
