I get why he's pi55ed off but you have to look at the baggage he brings and who would you drop for him? The middle order is probably our strongest area.
Bearing in mind that he's the best batsman of his generation I think you'd find a place for him wherever you wanted to find a place for him - but bearing in mind we have Ben Stokes at 6 and Chris Jordan at 9 doing exactly the same job, I'd slot Pietersen in at 4 or 5, move Bell down to 6, Buttler at 7, and then 4 bowlers. You only have to look at the world class cricketers and sportsmen from all around the World showing their disapproval at this today. We're the only country in the World that would have made such a mess of this situation.
Absolutely no doubting his talent but you have to consider the dressing room and other players. If it were up to me I'd give him another chance, no doubt about it but I can see why he's not wanted.
Playing in the bottom tier against the worst county that hardly ever wins a match. It would be like last season someone scoring an hat trick against Blackpool and then being put in the England side due to it.
More of the point really though is that he was basically told if he played county cricket and got runs he'd have a chance of a recall; he gave up most of his IPL contract to do so, thereby proving his commitment to it, only to find that he never had a chance in the first place. The ECB should hang their heads in shame.
I agree they should have been honest and told him his England days were over. He was right that it was deceitful.
Not really though is it. Scored the 30th highest score in first class history does take a bit of nous. But his ego is the problem as is the media circus that follows him.
The mans a first class lovely person. He is unpickable due that that sole fact. He is though the best batman ever to play for England, without a shodow of a doubt still good enough, even at 35 next month. If he is going to complain he's been led up the garden path by some off the cuff comments from incoming ECB chairman though then thats his look out. He was never told directly by the ECB that he would be considered for selection. The ECB have been shockingly run for the last 2 years, Andrew Strauss is the right man to sort out the mess, Colin Graves too despite the above KP debacle is a clear thinker and does not stand for sub standard performance, he need to shut his trap though and let the cricket management manage the team, shouting his mouth off constatly calling the west indies mediocre will not help matters.
Precisely the reason why he can't be considered IMO. First sign of things not going his way, and he bleats very publicly. Completely untenable for me..
Him and ricky ponting in the asjesr a few years ago. No tp get fifty runs in an innings... I was pissed for a month off the winnings
He should have got a top league county and tried to get runs at the top sides like Yorkshire, Sussex etc. Playing in the second tier against the worst county and with home advantage is being made into a big deal.
no one would take him. All the other counties either couldn't afford him or didnt want him. he's made a rod for his own back, If he hadnt written that book last year there might have been a slight chance for him, not now.
Yeah the book was a really good read but it made sure he had no way back. I bet the ECB are chuckling at costing him a 250k IPL contract by giving him false hope when he's done all that's asked of him. Triple centuries are rare but the conditions he did them in (bottom tier, worst county, home advantage etc) played against him. If he'd been playing for Hampshire at Headingley and had knocked our class bowlers around to get 300 that would have been a different story. Craig Davies scored four in an half for us. Even guys like Messi and Ronaldo struggle to do that but we wouldn't have been clamouring for Davies to be picked to represent his country.
Sorry but what was the next top score by a Surrey player in that innings? 36? To score over 200 runs batting with the tail is unheard of. Regardless of the opposition, it's downright incredible. When people like Alec Stewart & Sangakkara are there saying it's up there with the best innings they've ever seen, you listen. No other country in the world would be in this mess. Look at what top players from all over the world (Smith, Hayden, Warne, Dhoni etc) are saying. Look at what top figures in England cricket are saying (Vaughan, Flintoff, Botham, Boycott, etc). It's an absolute joke. As the journos have said as people have started to see the truth in this story, Pietersen did what he was told he had to do. He apologised, he cancelled his IPL contract, he got a county, and he averaged over 200 for that county. To then tell him he was never going to be in the plans anyway is beyond deceitful. We are not good enough to be turning down our best players. Clarke & Watson at Australia can't stand each other - but they sure enough stand next to each other in the slips. Unadulterated guff as usual. If Craig Davies had stats that made him look like the best player his country had ever seen to go with it, then maybe. We don't trust you Kev - but fancy teaching us how to play one day cricket? As Graeme Smith has said they are turning us into a laughing stock, as usual. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah they cost him 250k by chatting **** to him and that's not on. You don't ask him to do all that's asked of him only to say it doesn't matter. Just think the national team should be picked from players at the highest level that compete against the better teams/players like what happens in other sports.
