according to the chronicle, they both have one year left but have triggered renegotiation clauses in their current deals, what's all that about ? Is it designed for us to unsettle the team and the players ? surely such clause is pointless ?

They will have been on peanuts and is rewarding them for becoming integral team players

It's an incentive for young players to push on and step up to the first team. Don't see why it's pointless.

I can see the point in a appearance related salary increase clause as an incentive, but to renegotiate seems like putting clauses in for sake of it, and it as the potential to be disruptive,

Good. I hope we manage to tie them down on big deals. Ones with big sell on clauses.

25-30% sell on clause, 4 year deals with other clean sheet/played games clauses.

Daveis & Holgate have triggered renegotiation of their contracts due to games...

Totally understandable. Holgate especially, will be on a small contract. I'd be less worried about that and more worried about there being 1 yr left. If we **** about, we'll lose them next year and get pennies for them

Holgate one interesting as this extension won't be top brass and he was still taking a while to sign a contract extension offer. Maybe other interest hasn't materialised. The agent linking with Everton etc has a friendship with certain newspapers, most do, hence seeing the same names in same papers all the time.

You don't need a clause to renegotiate when a player reaches his last year of a contract, I just can't get my head round why they exist. It's got to be so the club can be held to ransom

Or it's a clause to say if my client dose well you have to pay him what we ask for or risk losing him for nothing a year before you would normally

Or it's a clause to say this lads doing better than we expected and we need the chance to retain him and pay him a fair wage which is a reflection of his value to the club. Not having the clause makes him easy pickings by other clubs.

No it doesn't you don't need a clause to renegotiate with your own player. They can offer new contracts when ever they feel fit without putting clauses in contracts. This clause is to stack negotiations in the favour of the agent and player and give them the upper hand

Re: Daveis & Holgate have triggered renegotiation of their contracts due to games pla

We can tie the player down to a longer contract. Je has had something in terms if an incentive and they are going to get a pay rise

    Every egg a bird

Re: Daveis & Holgate have triggered renegotiation of their contracts due to games pla

We'll see how we tie them down eh, if we put a appearance related pay rise in the contracts that's incentive enough surely? This seems silly to me, if negotiations don't go our way we're left with a player that doesn't want to be here so we ether hold on to someone who isn't committed to the club, so we can get compensation for him or we release him to find another club a year earlier then we would have to had we left negotiations until last few weeks of his contract, if we want him we've to pay top whack for him
