I know I'm right but you're missing the point, the club have Fu'cked up again, we've basically said I tell you what we'll give your player experience and a stage to perform and show other clubs what he can do, then you can hold us to ransom, instead of doing it with appearance related pay increases

I can't see the difference in what is happening and what you're suggesting should happen. He's renegotiating the terms of his contract, the main point being his pay no doubt. You're suggesting we just give him a pay rise, same end result, he gets paid more.

Plus, he's only a year left on his current contract so even without this renegotiation clause it's the perfect time to negotiate a new contract with him.

Both Club and Player agreed this clause, it must therefore by definition be acceptable and have a value (either in isolation or alongside other clauses) to both parties. I think this can only be good for the club as they both have proved they are worth keeping and will have a strong involvement going forward. Bear in mind many player refuse to enter negotiations especially in the last year and half as the nearer it gets to the end the better bargaining position they have. Sterling at Liverpool is one of many examples of this.

The clause clearly has a point, even if you don't get what it is.

    I'm more interested in knowing......

    1) How long the contracts are now.

    2) If we've managed to avoid release clauses being put in.

Alternatively we could have said, we don't want a clause, so have no right to renegotiate to keep your player despite him showing he is a key member of our squad and will attract bigger a fee if under a longer contract. Given this is two players, sounds like we wanted it in. However, we could always try to turn a positive point into a negative one to support a particular desired viewpoint.

Don't forget the re-negotiation is not all about wages, we may want to add a couple more years to protect the investment.

Time off to make a new Rizzle Kicks album because Harvey Sylvester hasn't released a tune for a while.

It will be more than just a salary increase, it gives us chance to get them signed up for 3 years in the event a big club comes sniffing in January, or indeed this transfer window. Get a lot more for a player with 3 years left on his contract than a player with just 1.

I'd prefer a 100% sell on clause as he is our player. Where would the other 75% have gone?
