I agree. But this was about Gerrard or Lampard, and the latter beats him in every department for me. That doesn't make it so, or factual, it's just my opinion.
Re: in a bbc best central midfielder poll.....Stevie Gerrard Gerrard is a fantastic footballer. Brilliant. In my opinion Scholes was better than the lot. In fact not just mine - Zidane, Edgar Davids,Xavi, Pep Guardiola all seem to share that view. An incredible talent with the best footballing brain. What I have started wondering is how on earth England didn't win something in the last 20 years with the players at their disposal.
Boring. Great player but the media created crap around him going to the USA is embarrassing. You'd think he'd died the way he's being eulogised in the press. Sick to the back teeth of hearing and seeing all the stories about him. He's another one (like Terry, Lampard et al) where past social misdermeanours are ignored so that his backside can be kissed.
I agree. It was a blessing that Villa beat them in the semi final because had Liverpool got to the final the whole game and the build up would have been hijacked by a the whole sycophantic Gerrard media side show.
Also in a poll he was voted the best player ever to play for Liverpool - which basically goes to show that polls are *****!
There will be thousand of fans who witnessed the likes of Dalglish and Souness who will agree with you 100%.
I dont remember Scholes ever being talked about as a 'great' until he was mid thirties, he became a far better player when he dropped deeper. Its no coincidence he was basically forced into international retirement because he wasnt good enough to get a game in his favoured position and lets face it, most of his career he wasnt even the best CM at Utd. Lampard was a fantastic goalscoring midfielder, I doubt anybody will ever better his returns from the same position but lets face it, he couldnt do a great deal more, he was on the pitch to get a goal. Steven Gerrard wasnt too far behind in terms of goals for most of his career yet was up and down the pitch, tackling, passing, crossing, assisting... The guy is the most complete footballer I've ever seen and its no coincidence Fergie and Mourinho, the greatest 2 managers of our generation, have both been desperate to sign him. Zidane, Pirlo, Figo, all say he's best they've played against, Pirlo says in his book Scholes is the only true grate English player of his time, Andrés Iniesta Says he read the game better then anyone he's played against, I saw a pass and as I was about to make it he'd seen it before me and was in the way so you had to look for another but by then his partner had put you under pressure so you had to pass backwards or lose the ball,
Zidane and Pirlo have both called Gerrard the best in the world aswell. Difference being Gerrard never needed Roy Keane to pressurise for him though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
