So BFC have chosen to play a team that competed in the same league as Rec & SLAquaforce last season?!?!?

I'd love to see them forge local links and play either of our NCEL teams(Worsboro & Penistone) included.

The money generated could be a lifeline to some of the aforementioned.

Did the media person at BFC just find out about this? Two days late?

It does seem a little strange that we are playing a friendly against a random team so low down the pyramid when we've local sides of that stature.

It's a two plus two thing. Look where Barton is and look where some of our staff are from...

It is indeed. I know for a fact Porky (Rec founder) has contacted the club on numerous pre seasons without any reply or squirt for even an U18-21 team to play. That type of friendly could enerate enuff cash that a normal 6/7/8 normal home games would do in normal season. Aswell as that, im even more suprised that after the 'reds on the road' and visiting ST holders homes in the community etc that this would be the season to forge local links. Imagine the buzz in Athersley, Penistone, Worsboro, Shaw Lane at the thought of BFC playing there. It may still happen? It may not? I reckon the club are missing a trick misen.

Ben Mansford is from over that way, Hull area, think that's what he meant.

I won't be going. But I would have gone to Athersley or Worsbro. Totally agree with Cunning Stunt.

Agree with that. We should forge links with the local clubs. Coin in their pockets. Decent local atmosphere for a friendly. Even if to give the fringe players a run out.

Think BFC would be worried that the Rec lads might try and make a name for themselves, kick a few of ours. Dunno.

Surely the same goes for all players at that level, make a name against the pros? I don't think it'd happen anyway.

Just throwing it out there because I'm struggling myself to understand why it's never happened. Even sending an XI like they are for this Barton game. Help out the local non league clubs, and easier for reds fans to attend etc.

At the risk of playing devil's advocate - maybe the club believe playing a local side would make the game a little too competitive, we'd only be fielding young 'ens in the main and would it really aid their progress and fitness for a new season to get kicked to bits by part time players who effectively didn't make it in the game?

Agreed, at a conservative estimate(from Recs point of view cos that's what I'm familiar with) if even the u21 team played in Athersley it'd attract 750-1000 folk. That's 1/2 a seasons home league attendance money without the add ons of food drink etc. that's like BFC landing Chelsea at home on TV (perhaps more so I reckon) in the FA Cup next year.

I'm struggling to think why they'd play a team from north lincs from the same division?!?!? The mind boggles
